Our 5 month old has suddenly discovered mud! We have a pretty nice landscaped back yard and she all of a sudden began digging and playing in the mud as soon as water a tree! And ideas on curbing this behavior?

This sounds like Lily's idea of fun. But with function as far as she is concerned. She will dig a hole just big enough for her to lay in when she gets hot. I've given up trying to curb it, or fill the holes back up. She is relentless! So I just relinquish to the fact that my yard will always look like a meteor shower rained down on it.

If it's filled with rain water, all the better!

Well, I'm also kind of resigned to the fact that I just have to watch my step when I go into the yard so I don't break an ankle. I have told Baxter "don't touch", which is our version of the "leave it" command- and he does stop digging- but he's so sneaky, he digs in the early morning when I don't go outside with him! At least he knows he has to wait to get his feet wiped off when he comes back inside (which is a huge deal- he hates his feet being touched, but will let me wipe each one off with a towel by the back door- because then he jumps right back on the bed!) Now I've kind of given up, but my yard was never beautifully landscaped to begin with.

My friend, who also owns a boxer, is very strict about no digging with her dog, and is constantly telling her "no digging!!"- she listens, but you know how stubborn boxers are- and they LOVE to dig! She just keeps trying to see if the rule still applies!!
