I'd decided our latest love bug -- Tucker -- is NOT a boxer. I was pretty sure he was a mixed breed the moment I laid eyes on him but I was the only one. He was 12 months old and TALL -- bigger than our 8-year-old male who was always considered large. His feet are gigantic and the toes are splayed out. (That could be just from terrible grooming and overly-long nails distorted his feet.) His chest is in two distinct sections meeting in the middle and dropping to each side. His center chest is the shortest, not the deepest, part of his chest. My husband absolutely loved Tucker's appearance and didn't question his heritage at all. Everybody I talked with assured me he's a full-blooded boxer. Our vet felt he was a purebred (although not good conformation) boxer. I think they're all wrong. He's a wonderful, wonderful dog and he's cute as can be but he's NOT a boxer. I've done a LOT of web surfing and I'm positive Tucker is a Pixer -- a pit bull/boxer mix or a Bull Boxer. He looks exactly like the pit bull/boxer mixers on PetFinder. There's a Bull Boxer web site that shows a few photos. http://www.dogbreedinfo.com/bullboxer.htm There was another web site that had MANY photos but I can't find that one any more. They all look like Tucker. That site said the mix started intentionally in 1990 in Great Britain. I have an icky feeling this has something to do with dog fighting. I wondered if anybody knows anything about this mix.

I would think that bulldog or pit genetics would make the dog shorter.
Pits and bulldogs usually have a short, blocky build compared to most boxers. Although you CAN have boxers (or pits/bulldogs) with all shapes and sizes.
I guess there is no way to find out 100%. Just as long as you love him no matter what, breed doesn't really matter ;) .

He's not mixed with a bull dog. He's a mix of boxer and American Pit Bull. At least I THINK so. We love him just fine exactly the way he is. I'm just worried this mix is becoming popular and I wonder what's going on.

I have hear of these Bull Boxers but don't really know anything about them. Do you have any photos of Tucker that we can see ? He still could be a boxer just badly bred.

Oh My God. They arent really trying to do this are they? Its like the whole stupid thing with "poos". And there are people dumb enough to pay that kind of money for a mixed breed. I had someone ask me if Rocky was a bull boxer and now I can see why. My boy meets the standard except his nose is a little bit longer, not by much though. I wonder what will happen when these mixed breeds come in to the light of the public and the wrong people get ahold of them. I even saw one picture that said its father was a white boxer. Tisk Tisk Tisk.

You really never know when it comes to mixes. He could be anything. :) He could even be 3/4 boxer or ??

I wouldn't try to give him a breed name, since lots of not so reputable breeders give mixes the name of a "new breed" to just make more money.

Don't worry about it and just love him.

I, too, am coming to the conclusion that the "boxer" I recently adopted is a Bull Boxer. From day one, people have said to me he looks like a mix ( Im not a big dog person, hes my first) - he is shorter than a normal boxer, his coat is longer and thicker and his body is more muscular/thicker. Still a very good looking dog (fawn with a white chest and paws) and I get many compliments on him.

Naturally, I am a little concerned of him getting too much of the pit bull mentality (if there is even pit bull in him). We were out walking today and he nipped at the pants of a passer-byer - totally unprovoked....that may be more of a training issue.

I am a little annoyed at the guy that gave him to me as he is a boxer breeder and should have known he is not 100% (clearly evident when he is next to another boxer) - but all in all, he has been a good guy for the 8 weeks we've been together....

If anyone has experience or tips with this "breed", I appreciate any insight...

They even have a name for these mixes?

:( It really does make me quite queasy because people are purposely breeding for this. Most of the dogs in our shelters that get PTS are pit mixes sometimes pit and boxer.

On another note, I am sure you have a wonderful family member, and that's all that matters!

not a --Boxer, but...

This is not a Boxer combo, but I saw an add in the paper the other day for "Bullnese" puppies. It gave a website, so I coulldn't resist looking...
They are French Bulldog/Pekignese combos.

The website is for the American Bullnese Association.

Here is the scary part:
"The American Bullnese Association serves as a registry and is a keeper of the stud records for all American Bullnese that are registered with it. The ABA also serves as a promoter of pure breeding American Bullnese. It is the goal of the American Bullnese Association to get conscientious and reputable breeders and fanciers who have a common goal of producing true to type American Bullnese, to communicate and work together for the good of the breed."

That is the stated purpose of the "ABA". They have not only created this breed, but are treating it as if it is a breed equivalent to the Boxer or any other AKC dog.
