I couldn't believe my eyes, here we go again. My 9 yr. old grandaughter visiting from FL.,myself and my Buddy walked to a brand new park just finished past spring. On our way home I look across the street and here comes this pit at full charge right for us and his teeth told me he wasn't smiling. This same scenario happened to me and my last girl Teysha about a year before she passed. dejavu. I got ready and as soon as the dog was close I gave it a kick. Sounds crazy but I hated the thought of doing it and my first kick was like scratching his back, no effect. My gd is standing behind me and my Buddy was head to head with this dog, growling and biting at one another and moving around so quick I really couldn't do anything but wait for another good kick. They say no, but Boxer is the most appropriate name for these dogs, the pit went low and my boy standing on his two back legs smacked that dog with his front paw and was on top of it in a blink of an eye. I've been right hooked just playing with him so it had to have stunned the pit. Well the pit backed out from underneath and just stood there, as if planning another strategy, I still have Buddy on the leash, cars going by because its rush hour, I took one step back and gave that poor dog the hardest kick I could muster. Finally the owner comes out of the house and calls the dog, thank god the dog listened imediately and ran to him. Luckily Buddy didn't have a scratch on him, I don't know about the other dog, I know he's got to have a major headache. I would have rather been kicking the crack dealer in the head because they get these dogs for "security" and the dogs get a bad rap. I really hated booting that dog, but with my gd right behind me, (not saying a peep all this time), if I had been carrying a weapon that pit never would have made it home and I know its not his fault. I've had a pit, I have a couple of friends with pits and they are such sweathearts, their biggest problem is clearing a coffee table with their tail. I'm sorry this is long, I am so angry right now, this other house is only one house away and we have to walk by it all the time to get to the park. Can't call the cops (not in this neighborhood), I can only hope this doesn't happen again, I will be prepared but it just plain sucks because most of the pits around here are kept for fighting or protection because the pussies can't fight their own battle. RRRRRRRR. I'm open for thoughts or ideas, we can't move, trying to find a pet friendly apartment in this city is like looking for free rent. I had to move out of my own mothers apartment bldg. because of her no pet rule. That was our first baby, she was pulled out of a dumpster by a friend and given to us to show someone else, yea right. $2,000 later, new apt, rough hood.

Sorry you had to go through this. My fiance just called me because I am out of town and told me that her and Carter were "attacked" by two dogs today. She said she hit one of them in the head with a stick and they both ran off. I hate having to walk in fear that some idiot doesn't have their dogs properly confined to their yard.

I would have called the police or Animal Control right then and there - did you say anything to the guy?

I would have been super pissed :) It doesn't matter if you love dogs - once someone elses dog tries to hurt your dog - IT'S ON!! lol!

Hi There!
Sorry to hear about your terrible ordeal with the Pitbull. I live in Toronto, Ontario, and they have brought in new laws maiking it illegal to breed them. Also they must be neutered, and muzzled in public at all times. There have been so many attacks by these type of dogs something had to be done. You are right though, it is not the dogs fault that they have bad owners who lock them in a backyard and don't socialize them with other dogs and people ever. I think you should have reported the incident, that way it will be well documented if something else goes down. Well good luck, and I hope there are no future incidents Paul!

wow, how scary for you. I agree you should call animal control and at the very least report it. I hate irresponsible pet owners

Ditto for me Fletchers mom. It sucks when you can't even walk in your own neighborhood because you just KNOW that a certain dog Might be outside unleashed. Grrrrrrrrrrr....

I would have been terrified, especially with your granddaughter there. You certainly handled it well! Could you call animal control anonymously and make a report so they would at least check this dog out? It is awful you have to be afraid to go out your front door. Glad you, kids, and furbaby are all okay

It's a tough cookie, I've seen the owner of the dog a few times. He knows what went down and with who. It sucks, I gave him more of a piece of my mind than I would have liked to in front of my precious gd. But I've lived in this crazy neighborhood for a long time, I know the stupidity of the riff raff and the SERIOUS problems that can come from calling 5 0. If any officer went to that house, dog officer or whatever, my family would have to be careful. What I said to that p.o.sh. letting him know if it happens again what the consequenses would be, he doesn't want the problems with the law or anyone else he knows isn't going to tollerate stupidity. I'm not out to fight our world problems, I had to move to this neighborhood because the owners of the area tenements are mostly investors who live in premium areas and as long as they get the rent they rent to anyone. My place was brand new and the only place that would let us keep a dog and the owner lived on first floor. I"m glad to hear about the recent legislation about the pits. Boxers can do what they have to do and if some lowlife figured out that our babies if treated the same way are what they want in a dog our breed could potentially be looked on the same way by pols and the public that just don't get it, its the owners not the dogs, shoot the dog, shoot the owner too. Sounds drastic I know, but I guarantee you wouldn't hear about all these careless owners if they thought they were going to get the same treatment. RRRRRR it's tough sometimes but the personallity and joy that our last girl brought to our life and even my Buddy who was a handfull 1/2 in the begining makes it all worth while. All dogs are great but Boxers rulecool2icon. Sorry for grandstanding:o

It was a lucky thing you had your Dog with you, other wise your grandaughter could have been the pits target! Just an idea maybe carry a taser, I know it sounds cruel, but what if the owner hadnt come out and called the dog or what if the kicks hadnt detoured him! Oh my that had to be scarey for the both of you! My adrenolin was up just listening to your story.
I'm glad no-one was seriously hurt!
