I have found a pup i am in love with, however she has a pink nose and is twice the size of all other pups. Will she keep her pink nose, or will it darken, the breeder says she will, but I am not sure to trust?? Is it a bad thing to go for the biggest puppy? I am after a tall boxer, like my 2yr old Bosley, so I thought saer to choose biggest. Puppy is 5 weeks old.

It will almost certainly darken. Pups aren't born with all the pigment they're going to develop ;) It's something started in-utero, but most definitely finished later after birth. You would probably notice not only that her nose leather will become black, but that any white (ie. non-pigmented) areas on her coat will appear to shrink as she gets older. Actually it is pigment spreading, rather than white areas shrinking. If you take a look through the puppy gallery here, you'll probably come across a few pics of pups as young as that - and their later pictures that show a more finished result (with the nose leather now pigmented).

PS: Please take a moment now to post your introduction to the community in the introductions forum. Per the site rules, that was supposed to be the first post you made on Boxerworld, and before participating to the other forums.

I agree with all of the above and just wanted to mention that a puppy's size at 5 weeks has nothing to do with the final size outcome. A puppy who is largest at 5 weeks can be the smallest by 8-9 weeks, its just not something you can really judge by.

Take a look in my gallery, look for a picture entitled "First Day Home" and also "Sink Bath" - Guinness has a large pinkish blotch on his nose in those shots, but it disappearred gradually and was gone completely within months. Look at some later shots to see that his nose is black now. ;)

Personally, I thought it was cute anyway and wouldn't have minded had it not gone away.

Maggie's nose was very spotty, but now that she's 14 months old it's pretty much completely black. I miss the spotty nose though :( Her flash seems to have shrank a bit too, but it didn't really shink- she just grew...

Thankyou all for your advice, I also think pink and flash are cute.
I am mainly concerned about the harsh aussie sun and the pup potentially getting skin cancer later on....

Well if you look in my gallery you will see that my boy's nose eventually turned completely black. You can also use sunscreen on all flash and pink skin. Works great.

Pink nose.

Haley will be six months and she still has the slightest bit of pink. You almost have to look for it to see it.
