Hi - We have a 7 month old Boxer named Kayla. All of a sudden we noticed a very pink spot on her face, near her mouth on her loose skin. It is about the size of a nickel and seems to be bald. It is a little bumpy. What can this be? Also she has a really small (about the size of an eraser) scab on the back of her neck that is bald also. This is the second time she has had a small bald spot on her neck. The first time I took her to the vet right away because I was affraid it could be ringworm and it turned out to be just a scap from a cut. They did a scrapping of the skin just to be sure and everything turned out normal. That bald patch clearned up by itself almost immediately. This new spot is much bigger, but in the exact same area?? Any suggestions?

Thank You so Much and Happy Holidays to All - Patty

Is she white by chance? I know that allergy bumps pop up and the hair disappears and then the bump goes away and the hair grows back in that spot. However, being the size of a nickel. I personally would be a little concerned with it. Has it risen, is it hard, does it move around. It could be a gland depending on where it is located. I'm not sure, but I would probably get it looked at if it is that big. Good luck:)

Kalya is a fawn boxer. The spot is soft with a little bit of a bumpy appearance, but not extreme. It moves around just like its her normal skin, just pink with no fur?? It just appeared on her face one day. It doesn't seem to bother her at all. It is close to her mouth. I plan on taking her to the vet as soon as I can, but I am really worried. I'm a nervous mother.

don't fret

Sounds like a skin condition, but nothing too worrisome. Check it out at the vet! From what you wrote, my first thought was ringworm also.

Hi,

It might be a histiocytoma, Boxers are prone to them especially under the age of 2-3 years and they can get pretty big. Do a search and you'll find info on them as well as a few pics so you can compare and see if Kayla's bump looks similar. Dempsey had one a few months ago on his thigh, vet told us to keep it clean (swabbed it with rubbing alcohol 2x/day and put a dab of generic Neosporin on it). His was around the size of a nickel too. You could also use Betadine. After a few weeks, it resolved, fur grew back and you'd never know he'd had one.

Hope this helps,
Penny

She has Mange

My husband took Kayla to the vet today and the vet diagnosed her with Mange. He said it was no big deal and gave us some antibiotics and wants us to schedule some dips for her. Should I be concerned, or is this really just not a big deal?

Thanks for your help -Patty
