Hi I was wondering how safe pig's hooves are? I used to give them to Ali for quite awhile but since she's gotten older (10 months) she seems to chew them up real fast and I'm afraid of the pieces that crack off and she might choke. Right now all she has is the real bones that I can stuff with peanut butter and kibble. She also has a kong which is great. I stopped giving her the rawhide too, because, she would chew on them and it would become very soft and I became nervous of choking.

Wondering if anyone had the same problem? Thanks.

The older/stronger Tyson gets, the faster he goes through things to chew on as well. I've always stayed away from hooves myself, as Tyson tends to swallow anything that fits inside of his mouth.
I just give him a frozen Kong w/ treats inside, hollow bones w/ treats inside, nylabones, greenies, and bully stix.

Thanks, freezing her kong is a good idea. No more pig's hooves for Ali. I wouldn't take a chance on losing my baby.

Thanks,

Could somebody tell me what a "KONG" is?

As for chew toys, my Boxer always has a large rawhide bone to chew on and I have never seen her have any problems as far as choking goes. Also, I don't know if it is normal, but my Boxer will NOT eat her treats or food and she will NOT chew her toys if at least one of us is not home with her. She absolutely loves her rawhide bones, but she will not go near it if we go out. But the minute we come home she grabs her bones/toys and comes running to us to play. Anyone else see this?

A Kong is a Hard rubber toy that comes in many different shapes, sizes and strengths. You can stuff them with treats and freeze them so they last longer for chewing. They are pretty durable, no chunks or peices come off so there is no choking hazards. Do a rearch for Kong and you weill get tons of info.

Vegas is the same way as your pup, he will start chewing on it but when the door shuts he leaves it and will not go back to it until we get home. Then he will run say hello, he run back and start chewing like crazy. Very rarely will it be all gone or even partially gone by the time we get home.

BTW and FYI, I bought my kong (the smallest black one) at Pet Value and they gave me a lifetime warranty on it. As soon as it cracks, if it ever does, I can return it and exchange it for a new one on the spot, with supporting bill.
