are pig's ears bad for boxers??

My baby girl Shelby I got her from a breeder and the breeder told me not to give her pig's ears. She is the very first boxer i have had and I am just wondering if anyone knows or has heard of this before??? I have had rotti's before and have given them pigs ears i mean they seam to love them! I know when i bring shelby to the pet store her nose goes straigh to the ears!! I am dying to get her one but i heard this nasty rumor... and i would never want to hurt my pooch.

So if anyone knows anything about this please help.... THANK-YOU!!!

Pig's Ears

Hi Shelby,

Sirrina won a pig's ear at obedience class & I allowed
her to have it with some reservations. The next morning
she was covered with hives. The yard man cut our lawn
that day as well ( 1st cut of the season ). Coincidence?
I don't really think so; she went to the vet three consecutive
days for benadryl. The hives did not seem, however, to bother
her and she recovered fine. :)

Shelby, my main concern with pigs ears was the choking factor. I used to give Jasper pigs ears (only when I was with him). As he got older, he would get it bendy and fit the whole thing in his mouth. Once I noticed that, we stopped giving them to him.

We give Megan pig ears (low in fat). We watch her very closely though as Adele mentioned Megan tends to try to swallow the last portion of the pig ear whole. When it gets down to that size we cut it up with scissors so the pieces are smaller.

I am not sure how good they are health wise but I think they are like any other food or toy you give your dog, you have to watch them to make sure they don't swallow something they shouldn't.

We give Maggie pigs ears as a treat on a regular basis, she loves them and when she won't seem to calm down it gives her something to do for a few minutes. I make sure that when she has one she is supervised because I fear her choking on them as they get mushy at the end like a rawhide.
I've read that they are a good alternative to processed treats and are good at cleaning the plaque off of their teeth.

I give Gibson Pigs ears once a week he loves them and I watch him while he eats them. He has to eat them outside otherwise there is piggy parts all over the house.

Aren't pig ears one of the things that dogs can't digest and they can cause a blockage due to this?? I've never given my dogs pig ears because of this.

Pig Ears

When I first got Tyrant, every single time I gave her a pig ear
she threw up by the following morning
One time, we had to see her vet for Hives
He said it was an allergic reaction to a flea bite ( I was able to find a few fleas)
I think, though it was the pig ear
That was about her fourth and last pig earNo more problems with Hives... ( She has had fleas since)
However, She cannot eat ANY people food without throwing up
We only feed her dry dog food (Nutro for the past 2 years-Iams prior)
We always know when she gets into something the kids leave around,
or a guest thinks they're being "nice" to her!
