Pig Ears- bad or good?

What are your thoughts on giving pig ears to dogs? I also posted on this subject in puppy feeding b/c I didn't know where to put it.

Well, we have never really had good experiences with pig ears. Our adult boxer gets belly aches and diarrhea from them and both of our boxers have gotten them stuck in their throats, which means opening their mouths up and sticking your fingers down in their throats to pull out the stuck pig ear from their windpipes. Too scary for us after almost not being able to get one out one time, so we just don't give them any anymore.

I don't give Riley pigs ears because I've heard several bad stories of dogs and choking on them. This is definitely not a risk that I'm willing to take. I'm sure he would love them, but what he doesn't taste, he'll never miss!!

From what I understand, pigs ears are very high in fat as well so you definitely don't want to give them to often. An occassional treat is ok, but definitely not a nightly snack!!

Definately unsafe. We gave them to Ginger when she was a puppy. I got too scared watching her basically inhale the pig ears and then choking on them. I threw them away and she has not had one since. Too dangerous as far as I am concerned.

My girls don't get pigs ears anymore because Brit has previous chocked on one. Yep that meant putting my hand in her mouth and pulling it out of her windpipe! Never again! I'd tell anyone who asked absolutely never give their dogs pigs ears!

Yep, I agree with all the other thoughts:
Too fatty
Likely to choke
And today I read on another board about a Boxer with salmonella from eating them - the owner was told by the vet, he saw a lot of dogs with this problem from eating pig ears.

Bad,Bad,Bad. I have heard of them getting caight in their intestinal track.....not a good thing. Try greeneies I just did for the first time last weekend and they are great chew treats and freshen their breath

My boxer Samson loved pig ears, but i had to stop giving them to him because when they got soft he'd try to swallow them. There's been a time or two when I've had to pull em out of his throat.
