I was wondering if anyone has dealt with adrenal cancer? My Rae (14 months) was rushed to the vet with a HR over 200 and it was discovered her BP was also very high and her potassium was low. After multiple testing to rule out Addisons, Cushings, thyroid disease, diabetes, etc, etc .. the vet feels almost certain she has adrenal cancer. This disease has a median age of 11 years and from what the vet says - is very rare. This all happened toward the end of May and she is now taking potassium tabs and phenoxybenzamine which has lowered both her HR and BP (to 110). Any comments would be most appreciated. I am still in a state of shock! Thank you.

Have you been to a specialist? Or has your vet has consulted with a veterinarian with experience in endocrine disorders. Given that the disease is so rare and Rae so young I would really want to know for sure if it was really adrenal cancer. I wish I could offer some help. Best wishes to you and Rae.

This vet that suspects adrenal cancer is supposedly one of 11 vets in the state that deals with such diseases. We have another appointment on Jun 24th for a second ultrasound to see if there is any change in the adrenals. I am DEFINITELY NOT rushing into surgery, as the prognosis is not so great. I'll do some searching and see if I can find an endocrine specialist ... western PA is tough, but I don't feel the least bit bad/guilty about getting another opinion. Thanks for your suggestions and thoughts.

UPDATE: Sweet Baby Rae went for her recheck ultrasound Thursday. The left adrenal looked fine, although the vet said the right one "might be plumper" ... checking with endocrinologists now and awaiting any additional thoughts from them. So far, the treatment plan remains keeping her on her meds as long as her BP and HR are under control.

I'll be sending good thoughts and healing vibes Rae's way. I don't have any experience with this particular issue but I do know what it's like to have a young pup that isn't 100% heathy. It's definitely hard to wrap your head around.
