I take Hogan there. I don't know if the price is the same everywhere, but we pay $99 for each 8 week course. I like the trainer we have. I would suppose that different trainers could make a difference.

We took Diesel to Petsmart for his obedience training. The trainer was absolutely wonderful. We signed him up for two different classes and both were 8 weeks long and cost $99.00. When he finished his second class she told us we could bring him back any time for a refresher course for free.

How often are the classes for a 8 week course?

The classes run continually with maybe a week or two in between. They usually have a board posting the start dates of each class and who the instructor will be.

Personally, I wouldn't go to petsmart. Search here: http://www.apdt.com/trainers-and-owners/trainer-search/choosing-a-trainer.htm

to finds a good trainer in your area.

Jan~ just curious, have you heard anything negative about the PetsMart course which would turn you off to it?

I know there are a lot of good trainers out there, but for basic obedience we are taking Harley to PetsMart. It was $89.00 when we signed up for the 8 week puppy class. OUr trainer is great, she used to do pet training privately, and is also an aquaintence of my MIL...and its all positive reinforcement. I like how the pups get a chance to play and socialize and the store environment is a good distraction. (IMO)

However, I wouldnt bring a prospective show dog to a PetsMart puppy class, b/c they just wouldnt learn all the skills they needed to excell in the show ring.

I'd go to your local PetsMart and talk to one of the trainers, then decide from there as everyone has their own prefrences regarding training.

Good Luck,
Melissa & Harley

We just finished the 8 week basic course at Petsmart last week. I checked on the adpt website address posted above, and the instructor was listed on that website. I was VERY happy with the class and trainer.

Puppy Classes

We just graduated from Puppy classes and will continue with basic stuff when I get back from my three-week trip to Mississippi. It ran us 89.00 for an 8-week course. The classes were about an hour or two every sunday. The trainer is excellent, and for future classes, we want nobody other than our Kristen. She shows nothing but love of all the doggies and she is a great trainer for both dog and owner. Also, she works part-time at the emergency vet clinic out here. Anyway, I have NOTHING negative about our PetSmart classes except that PetSmart is a little far away from my house. But Sketch is worth it. :D They even give you a book that you can follow, like a workbook, just in case something happens you have to miss a class. You can go along with the book so you are not really behind and if you have questions, you can always ask them.

Yes, actually I have heard lots of negative things about petsmart trainers and their classes. I'm sure there are exceptions and that they have some good trainers. Another concern that I have is the small area in which they train the dogs. It is down right tiny!

I'm glad that you had a great trainer!
