I'm not sure what size sliding glass door panel i should get for my boxer puppy? I've been reading that female boxers get up to 40-60 pounds on average, so I saw this door that is for dogs up to 70 pounds and another one that is for dogs up to 120 pounds. I'm not sure if I should go with the bigger one that costs more money or the smaller one?

here's the specs:
Extra Large Door has a 10-1/2 In. by 15 In. flap size and fits pets up to 70 Lbs.

Super Large Door has a 15 in. by 20 in. flap size and fits pets up to 120 lbs.

I was looking at the brand Ideal pet and probably going to pick it up from Home Depot, unless I hear otherwise that it's not a good idea.

Thanks in advance

I'm assuming that you have a female, so I would think the smaller one is ok. I don't know of any females that have hit 75 lbs, but I'm sure others will chime in. If it was me, I would seriously need to consider what other dogs I might get in the future - I want a big brindle male, so in my case, even though my female is only 50 lbs, I would have to get the bigger door for my future male. I know several that have hit the 85 - 90 lb mark.

My doggie door is for up to 100 lbs. Napoleon weighs around 70 and Sandy is around 55 and they have more than enough room to "fly" through it...

We bought the bigger one because you never know how big they will be when they are totally grown. Teaching them to go through it was really funny... My son had to crawl through it first with a treat, then they followed him. Neither one of them would go through it before he did...
I guess they wanted to make sure he didn't disappear once going through.

LOL..

I have the Petsafe 10 x 15 and Billy flies through it. He is a 5 year old male and weight 62lbs.

We have the 101/2" by 15" and Caney "supermans" through it on a daily basis  She weighs 65 lbs. We also have regular doggy visitors that are much bigger than her (labradors and weimaraners weighing between 75 and 100 lbs) who have no problem getting through the door.

Anybody have concern about people breaking into the large ones? The other question is about the riser, a friend of mine was telling me that one of his dogs started to have problems walking through a door, since he had to duck a little bit and he said he wished he had one with a 5 inch riser.

As Star got older and less active she did hit 75lbs. We originally ordered a door for 100lbs and had to return it because Thor's chest was too big. We ended up changing companies and going for the one for 120lbs. I think it was by Petsafe. As for the riser part, is it going out to a patio that is the same level as inside? Ours lead out to a deck that was a step down so a riser didn't work for coming back in. One thing to consider is, if a door is too big for the dog, the dog can still use it. If the door is too small than you just wasted your money. As for someone breaking in, ours came with an insert that locked in place so no one could come through.

No concern about people breaking in. A thief would have to jump the fence first, and we shut the dog door at night also... but personally I'd think that if a crook came around and saw a dog door of that size, that would be enough of a deterrent

As for the riser, I'm not sure what you mean exactly ?? We have a bay window in our dining area and the dog door actually sits in one of the smaller windows, so the bottom of the door opening is a good 6 inches from the floor (at least). On the outside the ground is a bit lower so we have a few concrete blocks stacked outside the door to act as steps.

The riser I'm told is just that the doggy door is higher off the floor, maybe 5 inches, maybe 9 inches is what I've seen. Well some dogs are actually have longer legs, so some have to duck down just to get through and older dogs have a harder time ducking through.

Actually now that I'm looking the other side that's outside has mulch where I was going to put in the doggy door. I might have to do something about that. I have a wooden deck, but the side of the sliding glass door takes me to the wooden deck, but the other side where I was going to put the doggy door it is the same level inside and outside, but the outside has only mulch.

I found the one I really wanted, but have another question. Anybody ever have problems with pets coming in the door?

Right now I'm having a black racer snake problem and I got rid of two of the snakes, but just yesterday I was out in my backyard with my family and Roxy and all off a sudden another black racer started to actually go inside our house, since the sliding glass door was cracked open.
My wife is really scared of snakes, so she screamed and the snake was startled and decided to run fast under the deck or I have no clue where it went, since it just went in another direction really really fast.

I have less lizzards.............. but kind of wondering about snakes and this doggy door?
