Perineal Hernia

I have a 7yr old male with a Perineal Hernia and would like to know if anyone else has some experience with them, and could give some information on the risks of surgery, pervention and is surgery the only solution. Any Info. would be appreciated. can't seem to get much help from the vets in my area.

Fewer Perianal Tumors: There are tumors whose growth is stimulated by testosterone. These occur near the anus and are called perianal adenomas (benign) or perianal adenocarcinomas (malignant). As with the hernias, these usually do not occur until the dog is at least 7-years old. They require surgical treatment and should be caught early in their development to prevent recurrence. These tumors and the above hernia are very, very rare in those individuals castrated at 7 to 8 months of age.

Thanks for your reply. I have been told Boxers are prone to getting Perineal hernias and was hoping someone on this board has had the surgery done on their dog and what the results were. One vet told me if it doesnt get any larger or cause any problems let it go and wait because the surgery can be risky, being in that location where a lot of nerves are and the risk of doing damage to them and causing a loss of control of bowels and also being expensive, around $2500.00. Thanks again for your reply, maybe someone on here has experienced this and can share and I will consult with other vets.
