Pepcid, Rolaids, Tums?

On occasion Bella has the upset tummy symtoms described in previous threads. She sticks out her neck and seems like she has problems swallowing, licks the air and goes outside to graze like a cow. It lasts a few hours then all is well for weeks or months. Of course though it freaks me out everytime! I see where some use Pepcid, Rolaids or Tums to help out. My question is, how much do you give them? I always worry when trying human solutions to problems and don't want to create another. The last Bella was weighed she was 64 pounds.

My vet said I could give Pepto Bismol tabs to Buster once. Luckily, I haven't needed to do it again.

Blayne does the same thing when her tummy gets upset. I give her one Pepcid tablet and usually it helps. Sometimes it isnt enough though...I would check with your vet to be sure though.

Brutus has had pancreatitis and other issues in the past. My vet recommends 20mg of Pepcid every day. Brutus is 75#.

We also use 1/2 tablet of Pepcid twice a day with food for Zeus because he has Pancreatitis. I can always tell when he has indigestion because he burps up food. :eek:

Austin is 93 pounds and the vet said he can have one tablet twice a day of pepcid or zantac.

Edie also has pancreatitis, when it is flairing up, she gets usually just one 20 mg of pecid a day, that seems to do the trick.

Josi gets a 10mg. of pepcid twice daily.

Be sure to give the Plain Pepcid.

Trucker is 65lbs and when he does this he gets 1 10mg pepcid. I believe the packaging says “original strength”

Also I read in the “whole dog journal” that if you ever suspect your dog had bloat to give phazyme. You can get it at the drug store. It comes in a purple box. Of course if you think the dog is bloating you should also get to the vet but the Phazyme can reduce the gas and buy the dog some time.
