Yesterday, my friend and I drove to Maine to get Echo fiesticon and we decided to make a stop at the rest stop for some coffee..stretch our legs and give Echo a potty break. I had the hatch of my truck open to gt her out of the crate. Two guys walked by and onecommented "awww look at the baby pitt bull he's gorgeous!" I spun around and nicely said "no, actually SHE isn't a pitt, she's a boxer" The guy comes closer and said, I KNOW pitts and thats a pitt if I ever saw one! So I smiled again and said, um, really, she's 100% pure Boxer. He said did you buy her from a breeder and I answered yes, his reply was well sweetheart, YOU really should have done your homework on what Boxers look like so you'd know when you were getting a boxer or a pitt. That, sweetie, is a pitt" GRRRRRR. I wasn't fast enough to grab her AKC registration paperwork or the contract I had for her..damn damn damn..I cannot believe some people.

I have NOTHING against pitts at all. But for goodness sake, Pitts and BOxers do not look alike. People amaze me. I would have been ok with is that a pitt..or is she a pitt..or anything like that some people just don't know what some breeds look like so they make a mistake but to tell me what my baby is baffles me.

Really Donna what did you expect from a know-it-all man!! He expects you to just smile sweetly & agree with him, coz you know nothing!!

What you should have done is: Asked him to put his arm in the dog's mouth, if he cannot get his arm free, then he's right - it is a Pitt. :D

I wonder if he would've been up for that challenge?

I am sorry your had to deal with that idiot. Some people think they know everything. I dont know how many times my dh and I have been stopped by people claiming that our two boxers or pits or that are male is AB. We get the comments the worse about our male Zeus. He is large for the breed. He was a rescue and the family we got him from gave us his akc paper work and its says he is 100% boxer. But people will stop us and argue with us that we are wrong and that Zeus is American Bulldog. I have just learned to correct people once if they still insist that they know what they are talking about then I just smile and go on about my business.

Congrats on your new baby. ARe you going to post pictures of her? I love the name Echo. Very sweet name.

It doesn't really surprise me when people mistake one breed for another. But, come on, when the owner tells you what the dog is, don't correct them! As if I don't know what breed I just welcomed in to my home. This world is peopled with idiots :rolleyes:

Our Buster is also constantly mistaken for a pit or an american bulldog and like Jamielyn, I just correct them once and then leave it at that. Why waste the energy arguing - people are going to believe what they want to believe.

That's what I don't understand. Why the arguement? What does it prove? I would never in my right mind start an argument with a perfect stranger, just my luck this is the worst day of their life and this is when they decide to shoot someone and I'm a convenient target.

I am SO used to the "ohhh look a pitt" comment because of Blizzy being all white. At the time when I first had her and a few yrs after, there were NO white Boxers in my area so everyone assumed she must be pitt. Carson I am sure will get the pitt comment too since he's white. But Echo is a fawn! Looks nothing like a pitt..AT ALL

Ahhh whatcha gunna do? Fight with a stranger about it. My tried and true motto for life "I will not have a battle of wits with an unarmed person" phhbbttt at him!

I know how you feel. I get is that a boxer? Are ya sure because I never seen one in that color. I had a guy once argue that Oscar had to be a mastiff because of his droopy jowls and coloring. Just yesterday I had a older lady say it must be rare that he is a brindle. I just said nope it is common for them to be this color. I was trying not to be disrespectful to the elderly woman but sometimes its so frustrating. I have given up on educating folks on it. I just say he's a boxer and leave it at that.

Simple solution:

Just agree with them, then show the tattoo and tell them that you really have the AKC fooled, registering a Pitt as a Boxer.

That will bring a knowing smile to their face, and something you can laugh about for years to come.
