Pelvic bladder

Gretta was vomiting blood yesterday. Took her to vet. Had X-ray done. Today they tell me they see something in her pelvis and also felt something on rectal exam. They think her bladder is in the pelvis because they don't see it where it should be on X-ray. They are now recommending ultrasound and urethogram to see what's going on. Gretta will be 4 in September. She's never had any symptoms. Her issue yesterday was diagnosed as acute gastroenteritis. My question is would you do all this testing when she's never had any symptoms? I feel this was an incidental finding. Had she not gotten sick yesterday and had an xray, we wouldn't know there was an issue. I appreciate any thoughts or suggestions. Thanks

I would at the very least have the ultrasound done. Just because you haven't seen any symptoms doesn't mean something can't be off. I have been faced with some serious issues with my dogs who never had any symptoms. Having a heads up before there is a major issue is a blessing, and one I would use to my advantage. Only of they see something worrisome would I go for the more invasive urethrogram.

I have to agree with Pam -- an ultrasound was the test that was not done when my Mick froze up. Don't think it would have changed the outcome, but might have saved him some suffering.

Liberty was diagnosed with pelvic bladder when she was young. She started dripping urine and incontinence meds were not working. An ultrasound was done and that is what they found stating it is more common in dogs with a deep chest then regular dogs. We contacted a specialist which was 4.5 hours away regarding possible surgery. They told us we could come for a consultation but surgery could not guarantee that the dripping would stop. We decided not to have the consultation and the dripping has decreased significantly. Out vet told us that as she grows, gains and loses weight that it may shift a little and the dripping may stop all together. It was not affecting any other organs either at the time of the ultrasound.
