On Saturday I had taken Prince to the dog park where I usually take him, but he developed a new habit. He lifted his leg to pee on me (luckily I caught him in time), and attempted to do it two other times. If that wasn't bad enough, he tried to do it to another guy who was there. I'm sure this is an attempt to assert dominance, so I know I can stop him from doing it to me, but what can I do about other people??? HELP!!!

Hang out with people you don't like.

My parents schnauzer did that once. I don't know if it was a passing phase or what? I suspect the guy he "marked" smelled like his dogs. He had 2 miniature poodles. He only did it that one time.

OMG how embarassing I know! My rottie 4 yrs old had never done that before, last summer when my hubby was walking down the street he stopped to talk to some neighbours who had never met Ryker before, they were making a fuss over him because he was so big. Then all of a sudden he lifts his leg and pees on hubbys pants. Everybody laughed! except hubby who ws more shocked than finding it funny. They also had a spaniel there and I think it was a dominance thng. He has never done it since.
I am not sure if its the same thing, but I am sure Tulsa Dan will be able to help you. If anyone knows it will be him. Good Luck!

Prince attempted to pee on both myself and another dog owner last night. I caught him just in time both times, but really don't know what's causing this behavior. He knew he was in trouble (ie had his head and tail down) so I just don't know what this all means. If its any help for advice, he's only 9.5 mos. old and very well behaved in every other aspect.

Doggie puberty?

Maybe he's going through some hormonal changes and feels he has to mark everything and everybody. If thats the case, I'm sure he'll outgrow it. Don't take me at my word. I'm not a doctor or vet, I'm just an electrical engineer. My Rowdy is 12 1/2 months old and it seems as if he was about 9-10 months old when he picked up his pace of marking every other tree we pass.

This has happened to me also. Well, actually to my husband. My husband had been cleaning up cat poop in our yard and afterwards we went on a walk. Sure enough about a minute into the walk Rocky lifted his leg and it went all over my husbands shoes. He hasn't done it since, so maybe your guy picked up a certain smell too.

Good Luck

I had one that would wait in line to lift the left always needing to be the last to go on every item. Luckily after he was neutered this stopped almost immediately

I burst out laughing when I read this. Struck me funny.

Anyway.....

A dog came over to my husband at the dog park and lifted his leg and started to pee on his pants. Husband backed away just in time. The owner must have apoligized 10 times. The owner was so mortified I started to feel more sorry for him than my husband.

Sorry I dont know what to suggest to stop the behavior other than to do what you're doing. Yell NO when you catch him in the act.
