Hello all!
I've been lurking here for about 2 months now, and now I need the advice of the group. I have a 4mo. old boxer named "Joe" and I have a problem with him peeing. I take him out every 45min to an hour and after meals and after intense play and up until recently, he was ok. Within the last week or so, about 20 min after I take him out, he pees on the carpet! The weird thing though is he doesn't squat or lift his leg.. He just walks around peeing... It's driving my wife and I nuts and our steam cleaner is getting one heck of a workout.
Any advice?
Thanks!

I'm definetly no expert, but since he's been a good boy until now and he doesn't seem to be controlling it, then I would suggest going to the vet or at least giving them a call. Maybe it's medical, like a bladder or kidney problem.

I had the same issues with my puppy. Well, we kind of still do. After reading all the posts on here, I've realized that puppies don't even understand the whole potty training thing till they are at least 6-7 months. Mine is 8 1/2 and he still doesn't. He knows it's good to go outside but he doesn't know it's bad to go inside. We're still working on it.

Anyway, with the walking and peeing thing, that seems to be a common trait among a lot of boxers. There's actually a post on here about that too. And mine did it also. I think they just get excited and don't want to miss anything so they just go as they are playing or going somewhere or whatever it may be. Mine mostly did it when he was playing with our other dog. He doesn't really walk around anymore. Now he stands in one spot. Even though it's still inside, at least I only have one spot to clean up instead of a trail around the whole house.

As far as him being good up until now, you were just very good at managing his needs and getting him outside when he needed to go. He didn't really understand what was going on. Dogs also have "relapses" where they will be good for awhile, then they will go back to square one.

The only advise I can give, is go back to the beginning. Take him out as often as you are, maybe more, but keep him tethered to you when inside or in his crate when you aren't able to watch him. Just be patient and know it will all pay off in the end. I'm lucky I have hard wood floors everwhere except my bedroom and the area rug in the living room (which he seems to like more than the wood these days).

Good luck.

I do agree with Mom of Jaeger. My dog is now 10 months old and he has been RECENTLY housebroken (over 5 weeks accident-free). At the age of 4 months I still took him out quite a lot, something like every 30 minutes. He could not hold at all. Mine does not lift his leg either and he is 10 months old. I think you should not be worried about that. In term of housebreaking, you need a lot of patience. He will get there very soon. Suddenly he will stop doing inside without any warning.
Good luck!

Thanks all! I don't really mind it as much ,but it's driving my wife batty. My theory is that the carpet he's going on will be getting replaced this summer, so it's best that it's happening now than later. I also think we're going to go the hardwood route, so that will help too.

Joe's such a good dog!
