Peeing in bed?

I've heard from several locations that a dog does not pee in the place he sleeps. Well, my boxer sure does!
His first bed was very soft and comfortable (a couple of our old bed pillows) and he soiled the crate and tracked the mess onto his bed. After we washed them, he took to peeing on them. We switched out his pillows for a soft blanket, but still found it necessary to pee on it. After the blanket, we gave him a towel and he has yet to soil that, but we're waiting.

We are sure to take him out often while he is in his cage (he can go 2.5 - 3 hours), but he still does this. It's not an uncontrollable urge of his; Other times he is very in control of when he has to pee. He knows to wait by the door when he has to go, and he does. We wonder if this is something we can train away or of it's just an annoying fancy of his.

His crate, at first, was admittedly too large for him, so we put up a divider. This was before we put the blanket in that he peed on. It seems that the more comfortable the bed is, the more likely he is to pee on it.

Anyway, any suggestions? We would love to break him of this habit.

How old is he? He may be too young to really have bladder control....even if he seems to at other times.

Johann has the same question that I have...it sounds like he is too young to go 2.5 to 3 hours without being taken outside....

He is 10 weeks old, and it does seem he is too young to do that, but he does nap under our supervision for that long before needing to go out. Should we just wake him up from that nap?
And even if we intentionally take him out every hour, he doesn't do anything and just wants to eat leaves.

No, I wouldn't wake him from a nap...but if you are there when he wakes up I would pick him up and take him out...it may be too late if you let him walk to the door..we took ours at that age out sometimes every 1/2 to 1 hour during the day...they have such a small bladder they will usually go every time you take him out...I am not saying he won't have "accidents" for a while longer, but the more you associate the yard with peeing the quicker he will learn... now when I say "pee pee time" they both head for the back door!! good luck!

So he peed on the most uncomfortable bedding we gave him... and we were gone for just an hour! Before we left, he made both transactions with the ground and he didn't drink before we left, but sure enough, when we got home, he had messed his bed.

Boy, puppy raisin' takes a lot of patience!

Patience is number one on the list of necessary requirements to owning a boxer puppy! LOL

My first thought was, where did the puppy come from? Was he in a kennel or crate where he had to eliminate where he was? If so, then it's a tough habit to break. But, it can be done with the same suggestions other's had.

Many, many, many potty breaks for a 10 wk old. Like every 1-2 hours, after every meal, after any exciteable event like visitors or a good playtime, and immediately after every nap.

Also, when you take him out to pee or poop, wait another few mins to make sure they emptied the bladder. My Lily would pee twice til she was about 4 months old. I think puppies will go to relieve the pressure but not enough to empty the bladder. So to wait a little bit, you may find him going again.

You really can't have any expectations of a 10 wk old. They have no clue what their bodies are doing let alone trying to figure out how to relieve any discomfort. Lots of potty breaks and taking water away an hour before crating may help. But give him a good potty break as soon as you return and a good drink to replenish him. Also, if you are away for an extended time like 3-4 hours.....then a cage bottle (like for rabbits or small cage animals) would be ideal for his thirst without letting him gulf a full bladder load before you get back.

For my staffie who had this problem at 2 yrs of age, we would freeze a bowl of water for her and it kept her from gulping too much but I think it also kept her occupied as she loves to lick anything available!

I have a similar problem with my younger boxer (His going to be 2). He doesn't pee in his crate all the time but the last few months it has been a problem but ever since we got him (4 months) his had this problem on and off.

I also want to add that we just recently had a baby.

I take a good portion of the day to play with him so he doesn't feel left out.

We take him out frequently and he knows how to hold it. He used to sleep outside of his crate for a long time but now his only in his crate when its bed time or when we have to go somewhere but never for to long.

My jack pees a lot more then my older boxer Ace. He also walks and pees which is find outside but when he does it in the house its a big pain to us. I'm almost thinking he has a blatter problem but I took him to the Vet recently for his check up and his good. I don't know what kind of test they can do if he did have a blatter problem or this can be just a behavior problem.

I need some help guys.

Also our backyard doesn't have a fence and I'm getting one done next month, so I'm hoping this can be a good solution but any advice will be great
