Hey guys, I could REALLY use some help here. My Deuce will NOT stop going in his crate! He and Duchess are 5 months old and she is doing fine now, but he is just ridiculous! I swear I feel like I have tried everything. At first Duchess was in a small crate because, well, she is smaller lol, and I had Deuce in Princess's old crate (a large one.) Well every day I would come home to a big mess, so I thought maybe the crate was too big for him. Since Duchess wasnt going in her crate at all by then I switched them. This seems to solve the problem after about 5 days or so. I was elated! Well he is a little over 40 pounds now, so after about 2 weeks in the little crate he out-grew it. He was doing so good and I felt bad making him stay in such a cramped space so I went out and bought him the same crate that Duchess is in ( a large one.) OMG!!!! Its like a total relapse!! I have come home like 5 days in a row to pee and poop all over the crate and him! I have tried it without any bedding in it and with, I have tried not letting himdrink anything for 2 hours before bed....you name it I have tried it! The only thing I have not done is the divider panel. Im at my witts end here! Can anyone offer any advise.....PLEASE????

Use that divider panel!!! Make it just small enough so he can turn around and lay down. It's definitely the size of the crate, you've determined that. Make him earn more space as you feel comfortable giving it to him.

Being so young, make sure you are taking them out about every 2 hours.. I know it sounds tedious, but it's a good way for them to know to go outside when they do their business.. They will eventually be able to hold it in.

I take them out at 7:30 every morning before I go to work. I come home every afternoon for lunch at around 12:30pm and let them out again. Then I let them out when I get home in the evenings around 5:30pm. Of course while Im home they go out about every 30 mins to an hour until bedtime then they go in their crates for the night.

From everything I have read I dont think I'm making them hold it for too long. They are 5 months old so in essence they should be able to hold it for 5-6 hrs. I just dont understand why HE has relapsed. I think the barrier panel is the thing to do since he was doing great in the little crate and now wants to have a potty fest in the big one lol.

Do you let he and Duchess out together? Is it possible that he's not getting it all out when you do let him out? When my boys were puppies, they would constantly distract each other and they would "forget" why they were outside and just start playing. ;) 5 minutes later they were ready to go potty again! Possibly in addition to adding the divider panel, let him go out a couple times before work and on lunch? You may try and let them out separately and see if that helps at all.

I'm having the same problem with Jasmine...

Jasmine is a 6 month old boxer pup that we got from her mother when she was 13 weeks old. I cannot make her crate any smaller and she still goes in her crate. She will not poop in it but she will pee in it. I already think her crate it too small for her. She has just enough room to lay down and sit up. There is no room for her to play in it or stretch out as far as possible. Because I work during the day and my fiance works nights, one of us is constantly home. One of us takes her outside around 5 or 6 am, we then feed her, then 15 minutes later, take her back out. She goes in her crate around 6:45 or 7am until about 10am. She is then taken out again, and left to play around the house. She then goes back in her crate around noon for my fiance to get a little more sleep, then she comes out again around 2ish and left out until bed time. She is taken out again every hour or so, or until she goes to the front door. I get home around 6:30pm and she is taken outside then, brought back in, fed dinner, then 15 minutes later taken back out. Between 7 and 9ish she is taken out at least once if not two or three more times. She usually gets put back in her crate around 10pm with one more trip outside until the morning or if my fiance comes home some time after midnight. To me, it seems that she is in her crate for a long time each day but after speaking to my vet, vet techs, and a trainer, I was told she should be left in longer until she is completely housebroken. We want to leave her out of it all together but she will have the occasional accident and she is extremely excited when she gets out - which we're working on and she is getting much better. So, If we take her out so often, why does she still go in her crate at night? She will literally go pee everytime she is out and I swear it seems like she shouldn't have anything left in her bladder since she pees for so long. What can we do to keep her from peeing in her crate at all? Is she not going out enough?

I had this problem with one of my pups. What I found helped was taking her water away after 8pm. when she goes in her crate at 10pm. That gave her enough time to process the water and release the bladder.

Maybe her bladder isn't fully developed enough to hold a large amount. I had to build up the holding time so my girl would develop the "hold" muscle. Maybe she just needs to work harder at it. Maybe taking the training back to the beginning and building up the time to hold would work.

My pit girl never had to develope the "hold" muscle for her first 3 years of life. Vet says she may never be able to develop it at this stage. Holding the water at night has helped a lot. Also have her on a raw diet and she drinks very little water now. I still have to take her out every 2 hours and we still have accidents if I am not diligent about it. As I get older, I'm having the same problems now! LOL

LOL!!! The last 2 nights have been good actually. NO accidents! WOOHOO!!! haha! Poor thing doesn't have a blankie in there either though. She seems to pee on all toys and blankets so it's just her and the horrible plastic floor... I cannot wait for her to stop so I can put at least a blanket back in there.

We are having a similar problem with Nea. She is almost 11 months now, house trained very well. We havent had an accident in the house in months now. But when we put her in her crate to go to work, or even a run to the store, she pee's in it. Thats it, never poops. Doesnt matter if its an hour or all day at work. So we are stumped. any ideas would be helpful. thanks
