Zeus, 9 months, was neutered last Wednesday. He spent the night at the hospital and appeared fine when I picked him up the following day. Then, yesterday (5 days after the surgery), he started to urinate in his crate and on the wall to wall carpet. He is constantly urinating! I took a urine sample in to the vet today to check for infection, and there was none. The tech suggested maybe he is experiencing some type of trauma due to the surgery and being away from home. I am at a loss. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

I haven't had a male dog since I was very young, but I've always heard that males tend to experience some incontinence for a couple weeks after being neutered. That would be my guess. Hopefully he will get over it soon :)

Oh no...I hadn't heard of this before. Hopefully it will end soon. And, this news is kind of disconcerting to me...since Buster recently started regressing with pottying in the house (and on my carpet). I think we're in the clear now...BUT his neutering surgery is on 2/3/09. Yikes. I will be looking out for the incontinence issue to surface.

I do hope that Zeus gets back to normal quickly. Please follow up on this post and let us know how he does.

Charger our fawn had surgery on his toe when he was about two. He spent two days at the vet and a couple days after we brought him home he started peeing inside. His urine was a strange color like a brownish yellow. He would walk right in front of us and pee like we weren't even there. After about a week he was back to normal and we just figured he was getting even with us for leaving him at the mean old vet.

Thankfully, Zeus is back to his normal self!

It was just that one horrible day of constant peeing and cleaning up after him. He is now back to ringing the poochie bells a lot, but I'll take that any day after what I went through that day. Thanks for your thoughts and suggestions!

Could it be the start of doggy adolescence, AKA the terrible teens? At about 10 months, Oscar decided, for one day, that he wasn't potty trained anymore, and peed on the carpet, right in front of both of us! It only lasted that one day, but at about the same time, he started a destructive phase that lasted until he was 2 years old. foolicon You have been warned.
