Busters' Dad

Hi,
We got Buster back in February from a rescue foundation. He had been abandoned. The vet estimates he is about 1 1/2 -2 yrs. old. He is a wonderful dog and has become a full fledged member of our family. We crate him at night and when we are gone and he does fine. He can go over six hours in the crate with no mistakes. But....

He still wets in the house, sometimes only an hour after being let out. He wets in many different places while he only poops in one specific place. We have tried praising and rewarding him when he goes outside and we yell at him and show our displeasure when he goes inside. This happens about 3 times a week although sometimes we go a couple weeks with no problems.

What can we do to help him stop this behaviour. It's driving us crazy. Please help! Also, we have had him tested for infections at the Vet.

Go back to the basics, just like you would do for training a puppy......Upon waking, after eating, after playing, etc.

Take him out on a leash, and PRAISE, PRAISE, PRAISE, and give him a small treat (or use a piece of dog food), when he goes where you want him to.

You MUST catch him in the act when he is going inside, or it does no good to correct him after the fact.

Keep him in the same room with you at all times, do not let him roam around the house.

Look back in the forums area for previous posts regarding housebreaking problems, etc. You can do a SEARCH to find these.

Good luck!

Ditto to what Sabrina said. He obviously does not quite understand what is expected of him. Everytime he has an accident, you roll up a newspaper and hit yourself over the head with it and repeat 100 times, "Bad Daddy, I was not watching!"

Good luck, It will get better, but you must be diligent. :)

good tips! I really like the rolled up newspaper over Mommy's/Daddy's head and chasitizing thyself! Anyway, you may want to try some of the various products on the market that eliminate odors from the areas your dog has soiled in the past. Nature's Miracle has worked for us. This helps to keep them from going back to the same spot. Good luck!

I understand

Trust me...mine poops and pees whenever I leave..its not a stamina problem, its an anxiety problem. The trainer and I have narrowed it down, and I can't for the life of me figure out how to correct it...

As it is, I go home 4 times a day...each time I walk into poop and pee.....

I don't get it..

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated
