I tried to search this issue, but I couldn't find much. My little guy is 9 months old and i assume he is going through his "trying to be the boss" stage. Well,we can deal with most of it pretty good except this thing he does with his paws. He likes to hit and claw at us with them. As he's doing this he is barking as well.At first it was funny, now it's annoying. We try to redirect him to play with a toy or do something else, but once he starts it's tough to stop. Anyone else have or had this problem? We have no clue what to do. Any help would be great.

He's boxing you! PERFECTLY normal... he's a boxer!!

It does sound like he's trying to get your attention though... try ignoring him (as difficult as it is) and when he finally gives up and sits down then lavish him with attention and good boy. The key is to not reward his bad behaviour by giving him what he wants :D Good luck!

I think ignoring him is a good advice:) Good luck though because he is a boxer after all:D I box him right back everytime Krose does this.

Yep, ignoring him is the best thing to do. He's demanding your attention ;) Responding to him isn't going to help stop the behaviour (and if it 'used to be funny', then I think he's currently well aware that that is an effective way of getting attention). It will take a while to extinguish.

Ignoring him doesn't have to mean stand there and take it though. It just means don't respond to his demands (positively or negatively). What you can do though, is get up and leave the room - don't even look at him but go somewhere he can't follow you, or shut the door behind you, whatever. What that means is he got NO attention, not even acknowlegement, and is now left on his own. Not what he wanted at all ;) Five minutes is long enough, then you can return calmly and resume whatever you were doing.

That still isn't going to be an instant fix - he currently knows he gets attention through that behaviour, so it will take a while of *never* getting a response to convince him that he never will. But stick with it - it's an effective method and it will work long term. Good luck :)

Thanks for the advice folks. He definitly wants attention. I tried the going in the other room and closing the door trick. He is on the other side of the door barking and whining. Should i just ignore him untill he stops? even if he does it for almost 10 min? Thanks again.

Yes, absolutely ignore him. Don't respond or come back until about 5 minutes after he settles down. If you were to respond to his barking and whining, you'd still be giving in to his demands ;) LOL - you'd also be teaching him to bark and whine when he wants something...
