New Dog Park

While reading Out & About magazine yesterday, I came across a listing of all the dog parks and regular parks that allow dogs in the area. The one that all of us will care about is a new dog park - never mentioned on here before.

The listing said it was in N. Wilmington, FENCED, area for little and big dogs, 3/4 acre. The most important part is that it is fenced. I may go and check it out this weekend... to see what the people are like and to get Panzer out of the house.

I've been away from BW for a few weeks (vacations). If there will be a bash on the 14th, I won't be able to make it. (We have bbq plans for that Saturday.) Sorry I haven't been able to make the more recent bashes - it's just too much of a drive sometimes.

Panzer's getting HUGE, btw. I am a bad mom for not posting any recent photos.

been busy!!

i need to get on here more to keep up with everyone. i took a summer course though to get a few more credits in before i start back up in the fall, so i have been pretty busy with that.

hugo had a blast this past weekend up in the poconos. it was a family reunion and they all brought their dogs up. there was 2 labs, a spaniel, a little 3 month old jack russel(only 4lbs.), and a dog that was part wolf. he played all friday night and saturday with them all. best part is that saturday night he crashed at about 8, didn't even wake up when i put him in the car at 1a.m., and then slept until 10 sunday morning. it was great.

i then took him to the dog park on monday night and he wore himself out again. the was only one big mud puddle in the park that day and he was running all around like a mad man. and then plop, all of a sudden he just laid right down in it. first on his belly, then he rolled onto his side. he was covered from head to rear end. it was a mess. he went straight to the pet wash and then looked and smelled like a clean dog. tanya, i have been telling a bunch of people where the pet wash is and what it is, and they love the idea. thanks for telling me about it.

i am waiting for another bash and so is hugo. i have been thinking and i decided that they should have a website for the dog park, so you can also meet up with other people you know there as well. with some people being so far away, it is hard for everyone to get there. also, i am up for drivin to philly or wilmington for a romp at the park. tanya to answer your question about wilmington, i think it is only about an hour and a half at the most to drive to. well talk to you all soon. seeya everyone

B.T.W.- hugo is now almost 40 pounds and 6 months old.

If the rain holds off today, I'm going to take Panzer there right after work. I will try to get a more exact address for those of you who might consider meeting down here. I'm so excited to find a fenced bark park so close to our house. Foulk Road is a 5 minute drive from us. The Out & About article mentioned Rockford Park, which is literally a block away from us.

Any questions? Feel free to AIM, email, or PM me. :)

Hi!

Hey everyone,
I know again I haven't written in a little bit...been so busy with the new job! I am hoping we can plan a bash that more people can come to than the last one....Ava and Bails were so excited (as were Tanya and I) and then no one else came. You would have all enjoyed laughing at Bailey digging in the huge mud puddle...I have to call Ava to me so she wouldn't follow Bails in! Bailey is so silly, Tanya...I get such a kick out of her everytime we meet up at the park.

Deanie.....you better come to the next one because I miss Chloe!

We had a little emergency yesterday....Ava had a severe allegic reaction to a bee sting or a spider bite and her head swelled up to like three times the normal size and her eyes were swollen shut....my mom came home from being out and saw her like that and called the vet...thank god she came home when she did because at that point Ava was having trouble drinking which means her throat was swelling too...I was at a teacher workshop all day and didn't know any of this happened until I got out at 4...I was a mess when I saw her...my mom said that by the time I saw her her swelling had gone down so much but to me it looked so bad and I couldn't imagine what it looked like before....so now I have to be very careful with bees around her which should be interesting :) She is better now...I think it was more traumatic for me than her

Hope you are all doing great!!

Report on Talley-Day Dog Park:

It rocks!

Plain and simple. The dog owners there are super friendly and the dogs are all well-behaved. We were there for two hours yesterday and I didn't see any fights. There was only one male shepherd mix that was trying to hump some of the dogs (Panzer included) but no one got mad over it. The owner was a little embarrassed.

Lots of dogs came and went. And what a variety. Panzer saw his first Greyhound, St. Bernard, Pomeranian, Boston Terrier pup, and two HUGE English Bull Mastiffs. The majority of the dogs were either shepherd/shepherd mixes, husky, or terrier.

The facility is a grassy open field with only one or two trees. The big dog park is a large L shape and has three park benches arranged in a semi-circle. Those park benches really encourage conversation. It was really easy to find the park. Once you get off 95, it's just a short shot up Concord Pike/202 to Foulk Rd/291. I'd say under a mile. And once you're on Foulk, it's only a mile and something of straight driving through traffic lights. Entrance is well-marked. Park looks very new. Dog park is in the back -- isn't it always?

I plan on taking Panzer today between 5-7 if the weather isn't too much for a Boxer to handle. We feel right at home there. I think I'll keep making the short drive rather than walk up the street to the non-fenced dog park with aggressive dogs.
