hey guys i need help on socializing my puppy. She socializes with my other dog everyday and has been around a few other dogs (my bfs 2 rottis and one other dog that was walking down the street) other than that..she hasnt been around anyone. There are a few puppies around that id like her to play with, but everytime i try to take her near them.. the owners take their dogs away. ANy idea how i can socialize her?? Im planning on going to this unofficial dog park near my auntshouse..but those are big dogs (great danes dobermans etc) and i dont want her to get hurt.. any ideas. In january she will be starting obedience school so she'll get social skills there but i want something between now and then

Maybe you could talk to the other dog owners about why they don't want thier dogs to play with yours. Its possible once they get to know more about boxers they will be fine with it,
Sorry you're running into that situation. I guess we're lucky because all our neighbors with dogs seem to like Magoo. how old is your puppy? A puppy class is a great place to take her to socialize. It's very important to get her used to all kinds of dogs.
Have fun =)

dog parks can be good. Don't worry about the other dogs; you'll end up just like those who won't let their dogs play with your dog. Your dog is a puppy and most adult dogs allow puppies great leeway in play.

Also you can enroll your puppy in Puppy Kindergarten or a Puppy Socialization class. These are good ways to socialize your dog.

Also, find dogs/owners who are willing to play and socialize and make play dates.

Good luck.

well my pup is 13 weeks. I cant put her into puppy classes until shes 5 months so by january she'll be in one.. im actually going to register for one in a few days. I was thinkin maybe the puppy owners dontwant theirs near mine because maybe they think mine doesn't have all its shots..which it doesnt all she needs is her last booster..or vice versa...she's also a bit bigger than the other puppies around. We had an encounter with a chihuahua mix...the chihuahua didnt like Cinnamon..we also had an encounter with a pomeranian...same deal as the chihuahua.

maybe there are some other BW members in Ottawa area that you could link up with to have a "play date"? I wouldn't worry too much about the dog park. Maybe you could go and do a few drive by's to see how the other dogs act there etc.?

Just a few thoughts

I wouldnt worry about the Danes at the dog park. My friend has 2 Danes. when Evie was a little pup, I would take her over there to play. They always had the BEST time!!! Danes might be big - big babies!!! LOL

When Cami was younger she had a far better time playing with larger dogs. She seemed to intimidate the smaller ones. I wouldn't worry about the danes, they are just the right size for a boxer pup to jump on, but not knock over!

bella

same goes for bella she loves to chase the big dogs dn they are alll so good with her.
but im curiosu why you cant enroll her into puppy class until 5 months? we started our puppy class at 10 weeks, with all puppies the same age. our bella is 4 1/2 months and she knows sit and down, wait, and a little bit of stay, but mostly she got an hour of play time with other puppies each week.
not sure if you have a petsmart near by but thats where we went.

I wouldn't worry about the big dogs either! Willis always fared better with them. He tends to box smaller dogs into the ground (working on that) and neither they, nor their owners, appreciate that. My only advice is to end the play the second there is agression from an adult dog so no one gets hurt. Growling is ok, teeth are not. Good luck! Puppy class will be great too...

It is my understanding that Labs are very tolerant of Boxer play. If you have friends with Labs, try to set up play dates with them.
