I have had my brindle boxer Woody for 9 years now and yesterday morning i woke up to him having a major seizure.it lasted around 10 mins and eventually he snapped out of it. in the course of the next 6 hours he had 3 mini ones, where he started faoming at the mouth and shaking his head, and 2 more big ones on the floor. it took him a while to snap our of them and as soon as we could we took him to the ER vets. he has been there since last night and today he only had one big and 1 sml fit. his blood and urine samples are all ok.. nothing unusual and so we are getting a cat scan done on thurs. i am very scared as the blood tests were normal it can only mean it is something very serious. I was wondering if anyone has experienced anything like this. It is so unusual as he has never showed signs of anything along these lines. scared that its a brain tumor and will have to be put down.. can someone who relates please give me their advice.. would appreciate it loads.. thanks

Woodster: please do not post the same thread several times as the result will only be your removal from the boards. The few members online right now are not necessary vets or owners who have had the same experience with their dogs. You can't expect a reply within minutes.
My boxer has seizures at about 10 years old. It was a brain stroke, not a cancer. He was half paralysed for a few days and then he recovered almost fully. He died at 13,5 years old mostly because of a kidney problem and a cancer located near the liver.
Please do a search at http://www.boxerworld.com/forums/search.php for seizure in the meantime. Good luck.

My Bosco, had the same problem this morning, he woke me up at 5:30 and I thought that he was choking but he started to seisure and it last about 5 minutes, but this is the first one and I am not sure what to think or do. We called the ER and they told us that we need to get into our vet and have blood work done. BUt he is 1 year and 4 months old and this is first time to have this. Keep me posted and I will do the same. Just so you know you are not alone.

My last boxer (Becky who had heart disease for her last 3 1/2 years which caused a different kind of fitting that could be controlled with medication) before Jazz passed away at 12 1/2 years old from a brain tumour. She had seizures as you described and unfortunately went down hill very quick from when she had her first one but she also showed other symptoms such as going round in right hand circles and balance problems. I hope this isn't the case for Woody and gets better soon.

hi woody..
first off, nice to see another uk member, sorry its under these circumstances tho. I dont really have any advice for you as luckily bailey has neved had a seizure. you might want to search for some of PAULACARTER's posts, her young boxer bruce suffers from epilepsy and seizures and is on medication for this. she deals with regular fits and im sure she would have some useful advice or info for you if u maybe send her a PM. shes also a uk member which could be handy.
Hope it all turns out ok for you both..stay in touch and let us know woodys progress!

I'm so sorry...

Hi, I sure hope Woody gets to feeling better. Our first boxer (Barkley) had seizures. They didn't last as long as what Woody's did, but they became more frequent. He eventually passed on within 8 months time from a brain tumor. However, he had other health problems also, so I don't want to get you too bummed out. Maybe it is something they can control with medication if necessary. I know there is nothing I can say to make you feel better but try not to worry and enjoy him as much as you can. I didn't think I could ever get over losing Bark but I now have 2 wonderfully stupid boxers. Take care and I hope everything works out in the end.
