My family's sweet 8 year old girl Daisy was diagnosed with lymphoma last week :( I haven't posted much but have always valued the advice I have gotten reading the boards and am hoping on some insight on what to expect over the weeks/months to come... she seems as happy as can be which makes me smile, but inside it is completely eating away at me :(

You are not alone. Several here have had to live with lymphoma and our boxers. My Kiddo passed away just shy of 3 months ago because of advanced lymphoma and heart complications. What stage lymphoma has Daisy? Has the vet suggested any treatment protocols? You may want to visit www.caninecancerawareness.org and www.wearethecure.net for some great info on both canine cancers and treatments. Feel free to ask questions,vent,rant...whatever you need at the moment. Life will be a rollercoaster ride of emotions for a while...we're here for ya.

I am one that lost my girl to lymphoma and heart complications too. Just a bit over 5 months ago Dec 26, 2005)

My girl had 6 weeks to the day of the dx. She was happy right until the end. No one could believe that she was loaded w/cancer, she acted as she always did..puppylike. I was lucky, she never displayed any signs/symptoms of cancer ie:runny poo, lack of appetite, vomiting etc.

I miss my girl terribly but cherish each and every second of those 6 wks that I had.

All I can offer is make lots and lots of memories, take lots of pictures, do all those things you have wanted to do w/her, and do all those things that always made her happy, feed her whatever she wants..within reason :), remember you will probably have more GOOD days than bad. Try NOT to cry etc in front of her..ohhh they pick right up on that and it tends to drag them down. Don't waste time being angry, sad, teary etc..instead take that time and love that baby!

I am soo very sad for you. I know what you are feeling..as lots of us do..and its a heartwrentching feeling :(

Sending out positive vibes to you and your girl

thank you so much for your responses. The website links helped a lot in my understanding....Daisy has had 2 great days! Playing as usual and other than her huge bumps seems perfectly normal. She has been on the prednisone for about a week now and seems to be reacting well to it... I can only hope that the good days continue on and we can make more memories with her and spoil her rotten! I really appreciate the support through this tough time.

Im so sorry to hear about Daisy. I can only say that you are lucky to have this time with her now, to do all those things that we never get time to do, like just sit and cuddle her. Go lay out on the lawn with her in the sunshine and just cuddle and rub and scratch. These are the memories you have a chance to create now.

i cant begin to imagine how your feeling right now, but you have such good friend here and we will alway listen.

Sending lots of love and slobbers

I am so sorry that your family is going through this. I let my Boo go a little over a week ago partially because of lymphoma. He also had terrible arthritis from a puppy hood accident and an enlarged heart so we chose no treatment and to help him go when the time was right.

I took more time with him just to sit and cuddle and I let him be in charge of our walks. We took him camping and roasted him his very own marshmallows and forgave him for being grumpy with the other dogs on the trip. Take care of yourself and your other pup as well. Hang in there, you are in our thoughts.

I am so sorry to hear about your baby. My baby, Lizzie, was diagnosed with Lymphoma about 6 wks or so ago. Unfortunately, hers is in her small intestine so she has had lots of problems because of it (weight loss, diarrea, no appetite etc). We started chemo, but she had some pretty bad side effects so we decided to discontinue and just take it one day at a time and spoil her rotten. My new favorite saying is "whatever Lizzie wants, Lizzie gets". As Wanda already said, it will be a roller coaster. I don't know if you have considered chemo, but apparently many dogs with lymphoma respond really well with few side affects. Whatever you decide, this is a great place to find comfort and be able to say what you feel. We'll be hear to "listen". You will be in our thoughts and prayers.
