I know that boxers are sensitive to hot and cold temperatures, so I understand why he shivers outside when it's only about 35 degrees out. But we've been inside for a while now, and he's all snuggled up on my lap where it's warm, and he's STILL shivering. He also shivered some during the first couple hours when we brought him into the house, which I racked up to nerves since this is a new environment. Reminds me of little dogs, like chihuahuas, and I wasn't aware that bigger breeds did this, too.

He also got hiccups several times, and he hasn't touched his new dog food, which concerns me since he seems really thin to me. And he's sleeping - A LOT! He barely wants to play - just snuggle and sleep. Does that seem normal? His seller had them at the vet yesterday and I got his health booklet; she said that the vet wrote all the puppies off as perfectly healthy.

I guess I'm just worried about my new baby!

Congratulations. Everything you are describing is normal. You have to give him time to adjust to his new environment. He is probably missing his liter mates. Hang in there and enjoy the ride.

Hiccups are very normal and nothing to worry about.

If you are really concerned about him being cold, you could get him a child size hoodie or sweater and put it on him when you go outside. That is what I did when Moto was a pup, though it was much colder here.

How old is your pup? I would also take him to your vet for a health check. Most breeder's would require it. Puppies sleep 75% of the time. What are your feeding? Is it the same as at the breeders?

Good luck!

Yes all normal, the sleeping a lot, the hiccups. We got our boxer in the summer, so we didn't have an issue with her being cold. I agree, have your vet check him it as well. Congrats on the new pup. appicon

Congrats on your adorable baby! Yup, all normal. He may be to upset to eat yet. As he feels more comfortable, he should start eating. Are you feeding the same food? It's better not to change anything too soon, while the pup is getting acclimated.

I'd get a sweater for the pup - he's missing the warmth of mom and littermates, plus being scared. He'll be fine eventually. Just love him!

Thanks, everyone! I bought Taste of the Wild grain-free salmon dog food (it was the only grain-free that didn't have egg in it, as my son is allergic to eggs), and I put 1/2 that with 1/2 Purina Puppy Chow (that's what his seller was feeding them, which is just corn crap). He is starting to eat now, thank goodness! I am hoping to completely wean him from the Purina puppy food within a couple weeks.

He had his first vet check on 3/18/13 that included his first set of shots. His seller was the one who took him, and I got the health records. Besides some worms that he was treated for, he's healthy! :) I set him up with our local vet, and his next appt is April 8th.

Here is the coat that I bought him! He loves it, haha! (And he's super cute to boot. ;) )

OMG! That is quite possibly the cutest thing I have ever seen! He looks a lot like our new baby who will be home in 17 days. Congratulations!!

Aww, thanks, everybody! :D He's ALREADY almost outgrown that coat, though! Agh! I think I need to buy one that's a little more flexible so that he has some room to grow.
