Our New Friend

Hey there everyone....

My family just got a boxer puppy from a family who couldn't keep her. She is 3 1/2 mo and we are really excited to have her. My kids especially!!
Although we think the people we got her from didn't take very good care of her...that's all gonna change. She seems like she can tell that we will take good care of her and that she is safe. She is very underweight and she has worms (the vet doesn't want to do anything untill she picks up some weight)and an eye infection. I feel so bad for her but she is still happy as ever. She bouces all over the place. I also think that the people who had her before played with her by hitting her face and letting her bite their hands...we would really like to break this habit!! Any suggestions?? Well I am happy that there is a site like this and I betcha you'll be seeing me alot!!

Hi and welcome to Boxerworld You are such good people to rescue the poor thing and give her the second chance. Thank you from all boxer lovers for that.

What your pup does is quite a natural behavior for a pup - puppy biting and chewing. If you try the BW search engine you will find quite a lot of information about how to deal with this type of behavior. One of the methods to stop the puppy biting is to cry out ''ouch!'' and leave. Puppy biting will of course pass, but you can help it to pass it sooner.

You can also tell her leave it and give her a toy that she can chew on instead of your hands. I am sure it will all work out.

I had to ignore Rocky when he would bite. I said "OUCH" and left in a big huff. Didn't even look at him for like 2minutes. He got the picture real quick. I tried a bunch of things and it didnt' work with him.

I gave Rowdy my six year old son to chew on. I wouldn't be surprised if Nathan bit him back. He outgrew that phase and his adult teeth are bigger but not near as sharp.

Hey Drea!! Welcome to the board....and thanks for saving Lady

Well it is totally normal for puppies to be very mouthy...you can do a few things Never play with her using your hands, if she wants to play you, you can teach her to get a toy, any misplaced bitting that she does always direct her attention immediately somewhere else and once she starts bitting, chewing on the correct thing praise her and tell her how wonderful she is..

However, if she is anything like my little maniac sometimes, she won't be happy with a toy and she'll just incessantly bite and nip at you that is when you say "no bite" or "no Mouth" get up and walk away for a minute or so, you don't have to yell at her just a sharp "No Bite' will work perfectly..

They are big babies and love attention so by you ignoring her for that minute that is the worst punishment she could get.
