Sorry to hear about your girl.

Can you describe what she did during the seizure? Did she paddle her legs or become stiff? Did her gums go pale? Did she wee or poo? How long was it? How was she afterwards? What was she doing prior to the siezure?

My boy has had four seizures in 8 months. After many many tests he was diagnosed with AS.

Let us know about the above and Ill try to help if I can.

She ate about 4 hours prior to the seizure.

She was sleeping (we keep her in a cage at night that is topless) and then all of the sudden she jumped over the cage and ran to my husbands side of the bed. She was non-responsive and kept looking at her leg. Then she started shaking. She laid down and she was shaking, but not running and her jaws were going up and down. It lasted about 2-3 minutes. When it was over she stood up and was fine, licking and running around.

I called the vet yesterday and spoke with the vet tech. I explained what happened and she said that dogs of that age (almost 1) usually do not have seizures because of health problems. She asked if she got into something and I told her that we think that she might have gotten into some caffinee. She said that caffinee can cause seizures and to watch her. If she has another one to take her in and that I did not need to bring her in this time.
Does that sound normal to you guys?

I would take her in no matter. Maybe try and different vet just for a second opinion. Bradlee throws up and she is at the vet. (I have chilled a little but not much) I would also rather be safe then sorry.

Good lukc paws crossed

If everythng is normal again,I would just keep a very close eye on her. If anything out of the ordinary happens though, take her to the vet for evaluation.

Wow--I just saw this thread and I am so sorry! I hope your baby is doing better today. I had no idea caffeine was that dangerous.

I don't have any advice to offer--I just wanted to send you good wishes. If you are still worried or still see unusual behavior, I would take him in to have the vet take a look. Sometimes the cost of the visit is well worth the piece of mind it gives you.

Our Mya was diagnosed with epilepsy soon after she was innoculated. Her complex generalized seizures (ie lip smacking, staring, drop attacks, etc) frequently happened when she was tired and/or asleep.

It is very important that you document everything so that your vet has a better idea what is going on and what might be triggering it - a drop in blood sugar can also cause seizure-like symptoms and it might only be a matter of changing diet or feeding schedule. Certain products (ie flea preventatives) can also exacerbate symptoms.

Always one to err on the side of caution, I would at least call up your vet and apprise him/her of the situation.

Good luck and keep us posted ~ Cathy
