I had to share this story on how we fell in love with Duke, our first Boxer, and the breed in general. Duke has been gone now for about 5 years; it took us till last month to be ready to get a new one!
When we went to a breeder to check out the pups, we were newlyweds and "just looking". My husband had heard that boxers are good dogs, good with kids, all that. So we met mom and dad boxer, who were both gorgeous, then got into the pen with the litter, about 6 or 7 pups. They were about 7 or 8 weeks old. They all jumped around ran in circles around us, but wouldn't really come near. Then Duke came and untied my hubby's shoe and played with the laces, then jumped up on his leg! Then my husband picked him up and Duke gave him puppy kisses. It was like Duke picked HIM! Of course we had to have him. He and my hubby were best friends for 11 years till he died. That dog would have put himself in front of a train for my husband. We miss him a lot. It took us a LONG time before we were ready to get another boxer again - its hard to replace love like that!
