im kinda curious about all the different types of (colors) boxers because when we called our breeder she said that our little girl was the only brindle one of the litter. when we went to pick her up we didn't even think about it but when she was younger she did to a certain extent look 'brindle-ish' but now she doesn't. she's now 12 weeks old (and getting bigger) and she just looks like a fawn but like a dark fawn (almost an orange color) with little black hairs on her back and sides with a black mask and the normal white chest and short white socks, but not like any brindle i've ever seen. i'm just curious as to what her color actually is. we're sending in the AKC papers soon and the owner wrote the numbers for her being brindle but ... im just really confused about my baby girl! if anyone knows what i'm talking about please tell me what you think!

Any black "striping" or hairs on a fawn base is consdiered brindle. A reverse brindle is where the black is very heavy and almost obscured the fawn striping in some cases. The reverse brindles can almost even look black in some cases but a fawn background with even a stripe or two of black is consdiered a brindle.

thank you so much for clearing that up! i feel stupid for asking that but asia is my first boxer baby so i didn't know how the coloring was classified. thank you! now we can turn in her papers! YAY! =)

Well, some fawn puppies do have a stripe of black hair, usually along their spine, at birth (which runs the opposite direction of brindle stripes and usually falls out after a few months), and lots have black on the edge of their ears. There is also some sooting that occurs in some fawns, but this is not as clear as brindling. Do you have any pictures?

Per Julie's post - you can see a photo of this stripe on the puppy jumping up here:

This is a brindle puppy at 8 weeks of age (small pic, sorry):

If you take a look at the puppy photo galleries here at Boxerworld you will see many shades of fawn and brindle pups that may give you something to work on re Asia's colouring.

Asia may be a fawn if the base cololur is actually fawn and the black hairs are sort of just longish and scattered through the coast .... if she is a brindle the stripping should really stand out (unless she is one of the brindles with just a couple of strips - it does happen).

What colours are her parents? Two fawns can only have fawn puppies, but two brindles, or a brindle and fawn, can have both brindle and fawn pups.

As Julie said, tt would be great if we could see pics of Asia :)

i don't have any pictures of her up on my gallery yet because my scanner doesn't like me (not working good and it's brand new)! but i should have some up real soon. she does have a lot of black on her ears and a stripe going down her back and almost kind of behind her shoulders and black hair mixed all throughout but it's not that noticable, it kind of blends in...most of it is on her back. her mom was a brindle and her dad was a fawn. i was looking through the gallery and found one picture that is almost a mirror image of what asia looks like. i went to the picture gallery (where theres the CUTTTEESST picture of Tango) and it was in this folder ...

it's of a puppy chewing on a toy looks like she/he's on the floor...

i just copied down everything that it said because i didn't know what would be easier for you all to find it. she looks just like that puppy except i think where her spine is is a little darker and her socks are about an inch longer.
i feel sillly not knowing what color asia actually is but i guess its better to ask then to not know at all!

yes, thats the picture, shes a little darker than that but only in some spots so it's still basically the same color. i should have some pictures up of her soon so that someone can tell me for sure! im sure you're right though because we were thinking that she was fawn, we just weren't 100% sure because of what her breeder told us. when she was younger she did have a little more black on her and i guess thats why we were told that she was brindle. when i get some pictures up of her, ill post a new message in the 'show off your dog' forum so that i'll know for sure!

Sheeba was the first fawn puppy I had ever saw. When the breeder told me she was a fawn I doubted her because of the black line down Sheeba's spine and all the little black hairs mixed in all over. It didn't take long though and the black line as well as the mixture of black hairs were gone. It can be very confusing if you've never seen it before!smashicon

My Ruby is a deep fawn and at a year old I can still find longer black hairs mixed in all over. Ruby is only my second fawn dog but I assumed the black hairs would've fallen out by now...guess not!
