Like Boxmom, I did chemo with Quincy for his brain tumor. We had no side effects and, while he was only given 2-3 months without treatment, he had 11 mostly wonderful months. I wish you all the best.

a few side effects - I think

poor Oscar seems very tired today, and just this evening will not eat anything (not even boiled chicken) and is vomiting up any water he takes in.
I have read that this is a common side effect that can occur 2-4 days after the first treatment - but it makes me feel so bad :(
I hope this passes in a day or two, I just can't stand the thought that I am making him sick.

If anyone has tips for dealing with nausea please let me know.

Thanks again for everyone's well wishes - hopefully he perks up in a day or two.

I hope Oscar is doing better...

One of my boys has been diagnosed with the same type of cancer except his tumor is big and it's by his bladder. He is actually going to have surgery tomorrow and hopefully a successful one. I'm too thinking of doing chemo provided the surgery goes well with no surprises.

I've been told by the doctors, other people and reading that dogs do very well with chemo. Most of them don't even know they are on it. Only about 2% of the doctor's patients we are seeing develop any side effects (usually vomiting or diarrhea).

I wish you and Oscar best of luck!!!!!!! Hopefully we'll be able to beat or at least slow down that nasty illness and have more time with our wonderful companions!

Our 10 year old boxer Jake had hemangiosarcoma also. His was in his abdomen. They took a 2 lb tumor out in January with no obvious sign of spread, but unfortunately as you know it is a cancer of the blood vessels and by March it had spread to his liver, spleen and kidneys. We had to put him down March 4th. Good news is, from what I read hemangiosarcomas that are right under the skin respond better to treatment. I hope the chemo works for you. Good luck!!

Ask the oncologist to prescribe meds for the nausea. The longer he goes without feeling well the harder it is to bring them out of it.
Hopefully he is feeling better soon.

Your poor baby, I can only imagine what you're going through and the sheer heartbreak and worry for you all.

Bobby has been on chemo for 9 months now for treatment of GME (Granular Meningital Enciphilitis) and it was the Predisone which made him sick, not the chemo itself. I can only talk for Bob, but his blood tests are showing improvement month-on-month meaning the chemo is doing its job and it has been worth it all - he's had no side effects at all, we've only seen a massive improvement in his health as a result, but I know this is just his personal story, I hope it could be the same for every other furbaby.

I'm sending all my love and prayers to you all, your baby Oscar has the best care and love and you will do all you can to help him. Wishing you all the very best xxxx

Update

Hello - I just wanted to say thank you for all of your well wishes and advise - it means so much to me.
Oscar is now finished the first round (3 weeks) of treatment. He seems to be managing it pretty well - much better than I had first expected.
He only had the bad nausea the first weekend and the oncologist will be giving me anti nausea medicine this week for after his 4th treatment.

Thanks again!
Kate and Oscar
