Boxer Pal
Hi All,

A trainer, noticing the high levels of Protein (42%) in the Orijen Puppy food commented that that might cause some over excited behavior. Did anybody notice hyperactivity or aggression after moving to feed with Orijen Puppy food? Many thanks!

I don't feed it - but I do feed a higher protein diet ;) Raw real food, that is, not kibble. And no, I certainly don't have an over excitable or aggressive dog (quite the reverse - I have one of the calmest boxers you're ever likely to meet).

More commonly, I hear of carbohydrates and sugars (which are more or less the same in the case of dogs, since they break carbs down into sugars) being blamed for over excited and aggressive behaviour. Along with certain artificial colourants. Much the same as for people, in fact.

In which case, a food such as Orijen is a better bet than lower protein foods. Because 'lower protein' in kibble invariably means higher carbs.

Balming protein for hyper behaviour frankly seems a bit wierd. Protein is not, after all, an instant energy food. For that you need to look to fats and sugars - and of course, the carbs that get broken down into sugars.

There are plenty of previous threads about Orijen. Or similar foods such as EVO, BATM, Raw Instinct, et al. Don't think any one of them complain about hyperactivity as some sort of side effect. Worth a search if it concerns you.
