Tractor has been on the Nutro Natural and is scratching his butt off. We go to the vet tomorrow so I'm hoping to get some insight but I'm thinking it's his food. We weren't having these problems until just recently.

I have ordered the Natural Choice Potato and Duck. I'm hoping maybe it will help. Unfortunately it's going to take 3 - 6 days to get here. I had to order from Petco online since no one in the MS area carries it.

Can some one give me some insight into changing foods? Don't I need to do this within a 3 or 4 day period? Should it be longer? Do I mix the 2?

Thanks for any help that you all can provide!

Changing Food

My vet told me that you need to change the food slowly over time. For example here is a schedule my vet told me for changing the food.
Day 1-3: Mix 20% of new food to 80% old food
Day 4-6: Mix 40% of new food to 60% old food
Day 7-10: Mix 60% of new food to 40% old food
Day 11-14: Mix 80% of new food to 20% old food
Day 15 on: 100% New food

Yes you mix the two together well. Basically a ratio of 1/4 new, 3/4 old for a few days (good sign to increase is solid poop) then 1/2 and 1/2 then 1/2 old, 3/4 new then new. You can separate it further but that should be fine. Good luck with the NB Potato & Duck, Abby loves it. NB also makes a brown rice & venison and a sweet potato & fish for allergy dogs.

Petsmart in Mississippi

Hey TractorsMom! I live in Brandon, MS. I believe the Petsmarts carry that Natural brand of food you need. Not sure if you live near here or near a Petsmart, but its worth a check. GOod luck with the switchover!

WOW Someone actually close! Thanks for all of the help! I need it.

I actually went to the PetSmart on Countyline and the one on Lakeland Drive but could not find anything other than the Nutro foods and the I think Royal Canin? I had my son with me (2 y/o) so I was a bit of a hectic trip.

I'm going to do some more research on what the best will be for Tractor and the most economical way to do it. I am reading information about the BARF diet now. I'm trying to decide what I can manage.

Thank you all so much for the information. I have found this board to be a life saver and I know Tractor appreciates me figuring out what is best for him.
