I have started my 5.5 month old male on raw chicken. He is also eating TOTW in the a.m. for ease and convenience of my wife. Today she came home to a total disaster. He had vomited all over his kennel and pooped all over it, too. He was very upset and so was she. She doesn't want me to feed raw any more. Any advice. I'm convinced raw is the way to go. He has had loose stools, but nothing like this. I fed him some kibble and cheese, he ate, energy is high, drinking water..as if nothing is wrong.

His vomit was white and foamy. Any suggestions.

Feeding chicken quarters. He loves them. But I don't think they love him. I'd rather feed him raw but his "mom" is getting queasy.

How long have you been feeding them?

The white foamy vomit usually indicates a empty stomach - how much are you feeding and do you take off the skin?

No, the empty stomach would not explain the diarrhea - that's why I asked you how long you've been feeding raw and if you're taking off the skin...but you didn't answer. ;)

Sorry,. Not taking off the skin. Been feeding raw about two weeks..but not totally raw. Feed TOTW Ocean in am and chicken at night. He had eaten a chicken quarter and a back the night before and TOTW that morning. It had been about 24 hours since his last raw meal and about 9 hours since his last TOTW meal. Thanks for your concern. He is absolutely fine right now. He has had high energy all day, been a perfect boy and acts totally normal. Haven't been able to observe any stools today.

Glad he's feeling better. Skin is pretty tough to handle in the beginning and could have been the culprit. But since you say he's been fine since I would just chalk it up to adjusting to his new diet.
One thing I would do is switch up the pieces of chicken your feeding, if you can find a good deal on whole chickens that would be an almost perfect way to feed. Just cut it up (sometimes you can find them already cut up) and feed it to him over the course of a few meals. Since you're doing half kibble/half raw, I would give it about a month or until his digestive system stabilizes before adding any new protein.

Thanks for your concern and advice. After much research, I think you are correct...it is simply adjusting to a new diet. We'll back up a bit and add a bit at a time...no skin, different parts, and proceed slowly. He's great today. Went to puppy class and did fine.
