I have for awhile been trying to find the perfect offleash park to hold a Boxer Bash for the Ontario Canada area. I live in Oakville, and this city is host to 5 offleash parks. Kailee and I have visited some of them, and her usual stomping grounds is Lakeside, however it does not meet the needs of the humans owned by our boxers as there are no washroom facilities etc. Finally I think I have found the perfect place, and am in the process now of seeking permission to use the dog park. This is a membership park, however I approached one of the directors via e-mail about allowing us to use it for one day to host the bash. I just now received a response from him and he is taking my proposal to the membership and would be looking at a day in either May or June of 2002, giving us lots of time to plan. He did say that the park does rely on fundraising etc to maintain the park, so there could be a nominal fee for the day use. I went out on a limb and said that a reasonable fee would most likely be acceptable. He is to get back to me after their next meeting. They also have a web site, so take a look and see what you think and let me know who if anyone is interested.

I doubt the daily fee will be high, considering the annual membership fee for a dog to use the park is only 15.00, in fact I am thinking of having Kailee join. So, lets start planning this, and any offers of help will be greatly appreciated.
Anyone outside of Ontario who would love to come meet us please know you are all welcome, just let us know.

I would be very interested in attending and helping out with the organization of this event! What a great opportunity to meet the local BW members and especially the dogs!

I am from Ottawa so it is at least a five our drive to Oakville :( But I am willing to do it!

Once an actual date is chosen let me know, and I can put it in my calendar!

I did got the website that you provided, but I am curious to know how big the fenced in area is. Is there other non-fenced in areas for the dogs to run off leash in too?

Hopefully it works out.

Hi Kysha! Wow I am glad to hear you are willing to make the drive down for this and Jezze you too fantastic!!! As for the size of the fenced in area, that I am not too sure of, but I will take a gander over there one day soon and check it out further. Oakville like most cities has a leash law, so these fenced in dog areas are really the only place dogs are legally allowed to run off leash, and I am so thrilled to be living in a city that provides them. I have heard that Bronte Park does have an unfenced run area but due to Kailee's spontaneous nature (one squirrel and she would be on the road) I have not even ventured over that way. As well, some of the people I chat with at Lakeside where I take Kailee, have told me they have had many dog related issues at Bronte. I just felt for the safety of all dogs a fenced in area would be the best way to go, and washroom facilities and picnic tables etc were important as well for us humans. Keep the ideas coming though because that is what makes things work out!! :)

I would like to say Thankyou to you and Jezze for your offer to help organize this and I will be taking you up on it. Let's keep in touch :)

This would be very exciting if this works out!

The only reason that I was asking about the fence and the size of the area is becuase my guys have never been to a fenced in dog park. We are very fortunate to a have a 10 acre, none fenced, off leash dog area. We have wonderful trails to walk, and it's not near busy streets. I will have to do some research to find if there is a fence area in Ottawa so I can get them used to this. I would hate to drive all the way and they freak out:rolleyes:

There aren't many Boxers in my area, bit I will spread the word to the two that I know.

If I can help out from Ottawa, let me know.

Cool!!
For sure I will check the area out for size. The park I take Kailee to is fenced as well, but it is about 2 acres of open field just fenced around the perimeter. If it had washrooms and some shade I would consider using it, but it just doesn't fit the needs. I cannot imagine the area will be small enough to make the dogs feel confined as the whole idea is to give them room to run. Your park sounds a lot like the one Kailee and I went to in London, no fencing, trails in fact I believe Jezze frequents that park. The only problem is No washroom facilities and the open area did not provide any shade. Perhaps if my work schedule allows it, I will check this park out on the weekend. Keep the ideas coming though please and for sure your help will be much appreciated :)

Hi Jean,

Nash and I would love to attend!

I have no problem with paying a fee, it would certainly be more than worth it!

Please let us know when you have decided on a date, and let me know how I may help, or what we should bring, etc.

We are near Oshawa, the other side of Toronto from you, but if Kysha is willing to drive from Ottawa, we would be happy to as well!

Great!!

Now nothing is set in stone yet with this dogpark, but the director I contacted said he realizes that an answer from the park membership should come back to us ASAP to give us time to organize. If anyone else has a park in mind, don't hesitate to suggest it.

Yahoo!!!

I just received an e-mail from the committee member of the dog park. He has reviewed my request with the committee and they feel it will be OK to let us have the park for a day in June!! They will discuss it further at their meeting in January and get back to me. I think we can make this happen!!
