Only 1 pup from litter - Should I be concerned

I rescued Shadow from a teenager who obiously could NOT take care of the pup. Well in our one meeting he said that his mom breed Boxers and Shadow's mom had a litter of just one pup, Shadow, I guess Shadow's mom was very protective of him and he said that they put her down because she was so over protective. I could nt get any more info out of him about his mom or where she was from. But I got wondering , Other than having a spoiled only child (my husband and son are also only children) Is there anything else I should be concerened with.

He's a great pup, much loved, and hes getting better on the listening stuff.

Has anyone heard of this before?

Shadow is six months now, we are going to training and he's comming along well, He's big 57lbs so far.... He's a sweetie, but what a big momma's boy. I really felt I rescued him from an awful life, I could tell all the kid wanted was a couple hundred bucks and be done with him, he was NOT overly loved by this kid. He's just one of the family now. Now If I could just teach him to leave the cats alone!!!!!

What happens to dogs that are under socialized? What do you mean? My puppy plays out side with a chow all day! They absolutly love each other. They actually sleep in the same dog house. Do you mean socialize w/ other dogs? How can I tel if my dog is spoiled? Please explain, I am new to everything. :rolleyes:

You should socialize your dog with new dogs and get them used to being out in public. This will decrease their tendencies to be aggressive when they encounter a strange dog. This also holds true for people although the majority of boxers absolutely adore human contact. My harley absolutely loves my parents golden retriever they are like best friends. I don't even have time to stop the car. However when he meets a new dog his hair stands up and he is a little precautious, but he is never aggressive. Who knows how he would act if he wasn't around different dogs before. So just because your pup is used to one other dog that it is around all the time doesn't mean it will be so outgoing when a new dog approaches it. This isn't saying that it will be aggressive,who knows it could be great but I wouldn't take any chances and start while it is still a pup, believe me I have heard to many bad stories to take a chance.
