one testicle

I have a new boxer, his name is Shadow. He is about 4 months old.. He has one testicle the second has not dropped yet, Does anyone know of any methods to coax the other one down ( Ex. Garlic) Or has anyone ever went through this?? Any help would be very helpful.

I dont believe the other will drop. All I can tell you is that this makes the surgery for nuetering just a tad bit harder, but still successful. cindy

As Cindy said it is unlikely that the other testicle will drop, but don't give up hope quite yet. I can't say that I have ever heard of any methods that will encourage it to do so. Sorry!! I hope that Shadow was sold to you as a pet as you won't be able to show him in conformation.

It is very important that Shadow be neutered as an undescended testicle can turn cancerous. The neutering will be more like a spay as they have to go in and find the wayward testicle. It is also important that he not be bred as it is a hereditary condition.

It is called Cryptochidism (sp?) and is not uncommon. Markus had the same thing and other boxers on this board as well. Make sure that your breeder is aware of the problem. In my case the breeder offered to pay the difference between a regular neuter and the more complicated operation that had to be done.

Well shadow was bought from a very good bloodline. I did intend on showing him he is a natural and very beautiful markings. I paid a pretty penny for him because he came from such a good bloodline. I am not to happy with the breeder. She even brought out the pedigree from both parents. I guess she got me didn't she. Well thanks for the advice.

I, as well, have to agree with the others. The other testicle will not likely drop. And yes, Jan, you have the idea, you only missed one letter. The name is Cryptorchid, (u missed the "r"...hehe). It is sometimes very hard to find the other testicle which hasn't dropped, so yes the surgery, regardless is a little more complicated than a normal, basic neuter. So, don't wait for the other to drop, it is very unlikely to happen. It's best to take care of this ASAP!! Good Luck!!!

You stated that you did plan on showing him. I assume you mean in conformation(breed). You can still participate in obedience, agility trials, etc.

I have a few questions....
1) What did your written contract state?
2) How much did you pay for the pup, and was their a *clause* in the written contract that if his testicle did not drop, you would be refunded back some money?
3) I will assume he has AKC registration....how was the papers marked?
a) full registration
b) limited registration
4)Where were the champions in the pedigree that you where shown?

Have you talked to the breeder since you found out? Are they aware that he is a cryptorchid. If Shadow was sold to you as a show prospect, I think they owe you some compensation. You were sold damaged goods, so to speak. Was he sold with a health guarantee? I'm sure you are so attached to him, you wouldn't want to part with him.

Remember conformation showing isn't everything. Personally, I think obedience and agility are much more fun.

Well I did get in touch with the breeder and she told me that she would take the dog back, and I told her that we are way to attached to him there was no way we are giving him back. So after talking to her for a while she agreed to give me half of my money back. So I am satisified, he is a great dog and my boys love him. Thanks for all the advice from everyone.

one testicle also

I too got a boxer from a champion bloodline--he was a gift from my brother and I had no intention of showing or breeding. The breeder was reputable, the parents were on site, had all the papers including the heart tests, hip tests, etc.. When I called my breeder to let her know about the one testicle she did not offer money back due to in my contract it states I could get another puppy if I brought my dog back. Well, needless to say I had already grown attatched to my dog and was not going to return him. I will confess I did know when I picked him up that he had only one testicle but was told it would probably drop. I had waited 8 months for a brindle boxer and wanted him so bad I took him anyway. I will not breed him and he will be neutered but I find it upsetting that they still charge full price for a "defective" dog. But I was told the breeders bought the stud from Jacquets for $12,000.00 and I guess need to make all the money they can to pay for that dog. Anyway, I chalk it up to a lesson learned. Other than the one testicle I have a GREAT boxer and would want no other.

I only wish more people would be responsible breeders :(

I am so sorry your breeder was unresponsive to your position and missled you as about the undecended testicle. From all I have heard they do not drop down at a later time. It sounds to me like that breeder is sticking their head in the sand, and are afraisd word will get out about their stud. They paid way to much for a defective stud and you are paying for it with their unethical treatment of you. I wonder how many of your pups brothers also had problems?
