So, since Vegas was about 3 months, I've been feeding her a raw diet. She was doing great on it... very healthy, active and growing big and strong. She's about a week shy of 6 mths and for the last couple of weeks, I've noticed that she hasn't been finishing her breakfast and on some mornings it didn't seem as though she was all that hungry at all. I originally thought that she was just getting a little older and probably didn't need quite as much food as she used to.
Last week she left some food in her bowl and in the morning rush, I forgot to put her bowl up on the counter before we left the house. Of course when we got home that evening(she's in doggie daycare while I work), she ran to the bowl and ate her food before I even had a chance to realize what was going on. She has been sick ever since. The throwing up stopped after a couple of days, but she still has some explosive diarhea and she's barely eating at all. I brought her to the vet and he told me to take her off the raw altogether... he's never been a fan. I got some meds from him, but now I'm confused as to how I should be feeding her. I went out and bought a bag of Innova Evo as it's supposed to be the closest thing to raw, but I don't know if I really want to take her off the raw diet. She's never been sick prior to this... never even had diarhea once. Right now she won't look at raw, but she isn't looking at anything I give her and I'm sure that a diet change isn't helping her situation any.
I'm going to grab some pumpkin tomorrow, but I ran out tonight and grabbed some Kaeopectate(sp??) for children to calm her stomach. I'm also giving her a nutritional supplement with electrolytes in her water so she doesn't dehydrate. Any ideas on how I should get her eating back on track and how long this will last? Also, should I consider switching her off raw?
Sorry this is so long... but I just hate seeing my baby sick and I'm sooooo worried about her.

Thanks!!

The Vet did not suggest a new diet for her? When ever my little ones get a little sick the vet suggests that I keep them on a blan diet for a little bit. Which would consist of some beef and chicken broth. Does she still have diarhea? Because they also suggest a little pedialite for children and if the diarhea's really bad a baby immodiom ad. Also another thing they suggest that my girls love is some baby food. to work them back up to solids. When my Molly got colitus from too much of a dog bone I did all that for her and it worked great. You might want to ask your vet but it worked for her and she was really sick. I know how it feels to have your baby not feeling well.

I would try giving her boiled oatmeal (or rice) and chicken. It pretty easy on the tummy and most dogs will readily eat it. I hope Vegas is feeling better soon.

Raw VS. Cooked

Hi,
I am sorry that Vegas is so sick. I tried the raw diet for my princess because she HAD chronic diarehha. It worked for a while but then she started passing blood, no poop, just blood. I thought she had a bowel perforation! My vet also demanded that I come off raw. With the sight of the blood, I was willing to do anything to save my girl.

I found a food mix called "URBAN WOLF" that you can use with either raw hamburger or cooked. I cook mine because I am NOT going to go through that scare again.

It's real easy to make. The food contains no grains.

Also, she no longer has a problem with chronic diarehha. Solid, beautiful poopies.
