Kilby'sMum

Super Boxer
The first six months will be tough but it'll be so worth it! I work from home with 2 boxers and I definitely get plenty of time to get stuff done, I usually take them for a walk (45-60 mins) then they have brekky, 30 minutes or so of playtime in the backyard (you could go to the park) and then I start work and they will sleep on the floor in the office. Around the 4hr mark I usually let them out for another 15 mins or so and then back to it for at least another 5hrs. Of course, that's a routine for an older dog and a puppy needs more frequent breaks and attention. We have never crated our girls (luxury of being able to leave them in the backyard when we go out I suppose) but when Kilby was a puppy I ordered a wooden playpen (no base, just four sides) and when Kona was a puppy I'd set that up in the office and put her in it with a few toys and a blanket or a Kong to keep her occupied which really helped because I didn't have to worry about her going where I couldn't see her and because she had plenty of room and things to entertain her there was none of that crying or barking.

On an aside, you mentioned running with your pup - not til they are older I'm afraid. I think you're supposed to wait until they're 18-24 months before running while all their bones and stuff are developing but walking is fine. I have only just started running with Kona (20mths) and it's hard work and she does tire easily so we only go about 4-5km once a week. Kilby (4yo) on the other hand can happily and easily run 15km and I'm sure she could go further if I could ;p.

Thank you all once again, for sharing your personal experiences. I wasn´t quite aware that many people have been in a situation like mine. That is surely the most valuable form of advice.
I´m planning on getting a puppy somewhere in July/August, so I still have time to think, prepare everything, and to find a good, reliable breeder.
And I promise, if everything goes as planned, you will be the first to know, and to see the puppy :)

I'd like to thank everyone for sharing their experiences too. My live-in girlfriend and I pick up our 12 week old boy on Sunday. We also live in an apt, and while we have discussed and prepared ourselves for most of the issues you all have brought up, it's nice to know other people have had success doing what we plan to do. Having two of us will be a lot easier, and the fact that we generally work different schedules will allow one of us to be home with our little guy most of the time. But as much as we have researched and prepared for his arrival, we know we'll have our hands full come Sunday!

Well I was lucky enough to get Riley (as a puppy) right at the end my second semester last year so I got to have all summer with him before I went back to school. In my situation it worked out because when the Fall semester started back up again he was trained to be in the crate a couple hours at a time and did fine with it. Maybe you could adopt an older boxer though thats already crate trained and wont require *AS MUCH* constant attention, because lets be honest, having a puppy is like having an infant! The reason I recommend that is because with Riley at least, he was going out constantly, whining for attention, and always throwing toys in my lap. Good luck though and let us know how it goes!

man woman 2 boxers 1 apartment

Don't worry you will get you peace n quite.. we just got our second. Boxer but with our first one it was a piece if cake. It is really hard at first because there's no yard but just find a dog park.. your future dog will love it and so will you...

We found a dog park not to far from where we live and its great.. first off LaRon(our 1st) loves the ride in the car.. when were out there he runs around and plays without out a problem .. this is good for us and him he gets to have play time and exercise while we sit back and relax, use the phone, run around the track to do our exercise, talk, socialize... anything!

But when were ready to leave so is he..

They do fine while were at wrk.. we both bartend so its crazy some times..

You will be fine just remember. you r the pa k leader so its one man one dog one apartment..
