OK harness is outta there

I bought Cash a harness last weekend, I am tossing it tonight..

After 4 days of wearing it for dog park runs (about 8 hours total this week) I notice he is rubbed RAW under his front leg. It looks like it is not weeping any fuild, it seems dry,but is there something I could put on the area to speed healing?

I also didn't like the position of the lead and neither did he, we had a try to relearn walking nicely on a lead. So back to the good old nylon collar we go..

Poor Cash. What kind of harness is it? The harness that Leena wears doesn't rub on her legs, but Mason has a no-pull harness that rubs his legs a little. Maybe you could put some talcum powder on the area, if it isn't an open wound.

Well, I am guilty of not doing any research on harness' prior to our purchase, it is generic. I don't really think we are going to stick with it, I had him walking really well in just a flat collar, and the learning curve is a bit much for both of us. I will just watch it and hope it clears up, if not, powder it is. I don't know how I missed that spot as he gets a daily inspection..:(

I would not recommend using a harness unless you need one. Mason is too strong for me to hold back in case we see another bird, dog, cat, fish, leaf, etc.. So I have to use a no-pull harness on him if we are going past the front door. Leena has only used her harness when we used to go to boxer play dates. It was easier for me to grab her/spot her if a fight broke out.

Also, using a regular harness gives them more pulling leverage, because they can use more of their weight to pull you.

I don't plan on buying my dog a harness. I'm just going to be original about it and use a good ol' collar. :D

this is why I picked it up, and the only reason I was going to use it.. I think we are just going to stick with a collar, I have always had good luck with them, never got the gentle leader theory either. I am also scarred that another dog will get caught in the harness SOMEHOW..

We tried the no pull harness on Boo at Petsmart (just let her wear it around to test it) and it looked like it could rub under her front legs. Boxers are so thin skinned. So we also went back to the collar. If she gets REALLY bad, she goes back to the Halti. It also keeps her from jumping up on people. She has never pulled in it and it is mainly a deterrant.

Try Neosporin on the raw spots. They have one with pain relief that will stop any burning Cash may be feeling as he moves around. HEAL Cash!!

There's a new kind of harness out that's a figure 8 design. I found mine at Pet Supplies Plus. It has a rubbery pad that sets between the shoulder blades...the harness snakes through. One part goes around the neck and one around the chest. Nothing in the armpits. There's also one that is sorta strappy. It's a U shape around the front of the chest ... can't think of how to explain it better...also doesn't go under the pits.

I have to use a harness on Shelby...when I walk her with her collar it rubs her neck raw...no matter if she's pulling or not. Any kind of friction on the underside of her neck drives her skin nuts. I've tried lotsssss of harnesses. LOL!

Jenn...instead of tossing it maybe you could donate it to an animal shelter or mail it off to your local rescue...just a thought. I dropped off old collars/harnesses and they were really appreciated.
