Okay so my friend just mentions something about how he hates boxers/pitbulls. I say dont judge the breed unless you know one. Well his roomie has a pit who is aggressive and he says all pits/boxers are mean and shouldn't be allowed. I try to explain it's the owner not the dog for the most part. And that the dog is a reflection upon the owner and it's training- which of course this dog has none. I say this is exactly why these dogs end up in shelters b/c stupid ppl own them b/c they think they're a "rough, tough mans' dog" then they boss em around, kick em, no attention and heaven for bid the dog ends up aggressive towards you---I wonder why Anyway, I dont know if I can post a copy of what I wrote to him or not, but I'm so mad right now I don't even feel like reading the rules, so I aplogize in advance if I am not to do this. "
everyone has thier own opinons on breeds, and if u dont like that breed then fine, stay away from them. But dont' down a breed just b/c you dont know anything about them and have had a bad encounter with one person who can't control thier dog. Bad owners=bad dogs, which could be saved if they had a different owner. And until you met a boxer who was properly owned please dont downgrade them b/c they are the biggest babies,lapdogs, and protective of their family. And I adore my boxer very much and will gladly own more- sorry if you dont like it!!!!" Sorry guys I just had to vent---ugh stupid ppl make me SOOOO mad :mad:

I know what you mean, it is not right. I do have to say I have never heard of pits and boxer being mean on the same level though!
I think it is just stupid fear of what you are taught and not knowing better. I will be the first to admit I am scared of pits. I don't know why, I guess just b/c of everything I have heard. I even had one as a young child, it died when it was a puppy though.
My friend and I have been friends off and on for the last 15 or so yrs. We have not talked much for the last year. During that time I got Cisco and she got a pit. We started training classes together at Petsmart on Wed. I do not know her dog very well at all. And I will admit I am scared of it. I am trying to get over it, I can tell some others in the class are scared also, though they do not say it. I know I will overcome this silly fear, she seems to be a sweet dog. The terrible things that you hear just get so ingrained in your thinking though!
But to say you "hate" any breed is just wrong.

Pitts unfortunately get a bad rap and its the peoples fault....they only do what they are taught or even not taught. Shame is I am sure they dont want to fight as they dont get the money for it the PEOPLE do and those people should be banned from owning any dog

I don't know much about pitbulls, have seen some delightful ones that where as sweet as Max. I have a friend whose step father is a vet (almost retired) he lives out of the area and he will not examine a pit unless it is muzzled. I guess I can understand if he has been bitten, but it is kind of a different policy.

The only way to dispell that common sterotyping is to educate people. I have never been a bumper sticker person ...however...i was at the store the other day and this lady had three huge rotties in her car ...they were so pretty!! As i pulled away i saw the sticker on her car...
'There are no bad dogs....just bad owners!"
I am hunting this sticker for myself now!

Trust my Rowdy

Ever since I have had Rowdy, I have made a game out of him getting his food. He has NEVER been the least bit agressive about his food. My 2 year old grand-daughter feeds him from her hand and he is ever so careful when taking the food. It really does depend on how you raise them. I have had a lot of different breeds of dogs through my years and I have to say that Rowdy is the most lovable dog I ever owned.. After my last dog died from old age back in 96, I said I didn't want another one. I just dog sat my kids dogs when they went somewhere. Now I can't imagine not having Rowdy. Being on disability and staying home all day, he sure has brightened up my days. Hinksy

Boxer -Pitbulls

I was at Petsmart and saw a Pit that was colored just like my Reba. Very pretty Brindle with white chest. I asked her name and if I could pet her. Her owner had rescued her. She was a doll. She loved the attention and her owner said people often think she is a boxer. He shook his head and said he often lets people think that because of pits bad rep.

He told me that she was running loose in a suburb of Harrisburg. The dog catcher was called and when she got out of her truck to catch her, she was gone. She looked all over and could not find her. SHe turned to get back in her truck, and there was this sweet girl sitting in the cab of the truck just waiting to go for a ride.

The saddest part, was you could tell her ears had been cropped with a pair of scissors. Even with this, she was a dear doggy!

Unfortunately pitbulls have a very undeserved bad rep. They are actually great family pets and love people. They are extremely loving toward people and are unusually gentle and tolerant with young children. Pitbulls are generally only animal aggressive, which is much different than being human agressive. Even when they were first bred (often to fight in pits) they were bred to not be aggressive with humans because the humans had to be able to handle the dogs during the dog fights. Even way back then they put dogs down that showed any form of human aggression.

Their bad rep comes from POOR BREEDING, terrible owners, and over hyped media. Actually a lot of media attention about dog attacks/bites are incorrectly attributed to pitbulls when the dog is obviously something else, but for some reason when the golden retriever or cute little lap dog bites someone its not news. Also, as many of you know first hand, dog fights among themselves do happen, but unfortunately even if the pitbull isn't the dog that initiated the fight it becomes a "pitbull attack" especially since the pibull is likely to win. The closest most people will ever come to a "pitbull attack" is to be licked to death.

I've even known someone whose home was burgularized while the pitbull was in the house roaming free. It probably followed the stranger all around the house tail wagging the entire time. Although they will give their life to protect their owners, a well bred and well cared for pitbull is by no stretch of the imagination a "vicious" dog.

Sorry for the long post, but its kind of sore spot. Being a minority I understand what its like to be judged before anyone even gets to know you because of what they THINK you are suppose to be like--or even worse they never even try to get to know you just because you are what you are.

I hate when people say that boxers are mean! They are soo far from it. I really don't care what people say because I love my baby Diamond. She's one of my children. Don't people understand that? When they talk about your dog they are basically talking about a member of your family. Just like my Aunt did over christmas. She said she doesn't like Diamond. Diamond did nothing to her. And she never would. If people would give boxers A chance they would know what great animals they are. LOL I don't even think Diamond is A dog. She's human to me.
