Oh My...I am soooooooooooo tired

WOW, am I having flashbacks! Kozmo is just 7 months old but we have had him since he was 7 weeks. That first week I thought I was going to lose it. He would litterly cry from 10pm until about 5am. I even had to go talk to the neighbors because I was sure they could hear his whinning, crying, howling, screaming.
What finally worked for us is we moved his crate to a more centerally located area where he could see more. The first night(after a week of the other stuff) he whinned for about 10 minutes and then went sound to sleep. The problem then was that after a while I was getting worried because I didn't hear anything.
Please hang in there, I promise it is all well worth it!

Puppies can make us feel pretty bad when we try to train them. I feel sorry for you...puppy hood is such a challenge. My Deeg is 19 months now; he is in the teenager stage, something for you to look forward to...tee hee. When we first brought Deeg home, I thought I had made a huge mistake. I was so tired from taking care of my Magic, before she died, that trying to solve Deeg's rescue/teenage problems was almost more than I could bare. I did not want to give up, so I went to the library and check out a pile of "How to train dog/puppy" books. I got very hung-up on one book called the "Dog Listener". This book made a lot of sense and really set my husband and me on the right track. Deeg is still a cute little "brat" but he is 80% better than when we first got him in October. After reading the book, we finally understood who we were to Deeg and our role in his life. Oh, yah, speaking of "brat", we ended up having to buy one of the library books because Deeg got his teeth on it...almost a LOL. Anyway, I hope you hang in there. There is lots of help and support here on BW. Any puppy named Gregory is a keeper.

My Buster hasn't been a baby in quite some time; and we've had some very different experiences with him being deaf. My husband and I swore he wouldn't be a bed dog but two days after we got him that's exactly where he wound up! Still today at 82 lbs. he sleeps with us. It's probably not any help but it saved us on alot on cleaning supplies; we DID have to buy a king size bed though! LOL

Oh I so remember those days with Toni. I cheated and I let her sleep in the bed with me so I didn't have to go through the whining all night. She had to be in her crate during the day so I didn't want her in the crate at night. She never pottied in the bed but at first she would wake me four or five times a night to go out. Of course she didn't know it meant go out. Unfortunately it was February and quite cold so I would pretty well be wide awake by the time she got done. At first she would potty in the crate during the day because I didn't know to section it off and I got the biggest one I could find so she would have "plenty of room". (I had never had a dog before). Once I learned I was doing that wrong I sectioned it off and she was fine but when I would get home she didn't even have time for a kiss, it was out the door she went. It didn't last all that long although at the time there were times I would sit and cry wondering if I could do this and loving her so much I couldn't imagine taking her back. It was hard. I am the mother of five children and I think the same thing that happens with mothers when even though they had a hard labor and maybe a colicy baby, we jump right back in there. Toni is getting a baby brother on January 21. He was born December 1 or 2. I know that all the progress I made with Toni is going to be started all over with the new one. But I can't wait!!! Hang in there, it does get better, promise.

Oh man, I hear you!! I swear, I almost had to be checked into the nut house when Louie was a little puppy. In time though, it will all pay off, I promise...
I agree with what someone earlier said about the size of his crate. Maybe make the bedding cover the whole crate, or get a smaller one so that there isn't any room for him to pee or poop on plastic... unless he's peeing ON his bedding. If that's the case, I'm not sure what to do about that.
A suggestion about the whining in the crate might be to get a fan to create white noise... I think if they can hear you, or any noise for that matter it keeps them up, or makes them want to be with you. If you put a fan in there, he may sleep better, or at least it may drown out the whining for you so you can sleep! He'll cry himself to sleep eventually, they're a lot like babies in that way.
