Indy's mom

We've ben having the furniture war around here. Indy won't even act like he wants to go on it when we are home. But when we leave - he on the couch! I've tried flipping the cushions, that worked for a while, but naturally Mr. Smart Alec figured out how to flip them back. Then I got the plastic runner that can be put over carpet, laid it on the furniture spiky side up. We came home last night, guess who had pulled it all off, knocked off the throw pillows too and nestled into the best tv viewing corner?

I'm going to have to have him seperated from the shelties at daycare...we all know how smart those dogs are. gradicon I suspect they are giving Indy a few tips. wackicon

Well, I may find this all very amusing, to tell the truth it cracks me up. But DH is somewhat less entertained. He is making noises again about crating poor Indiana if I don't find a solution. This is the ONLY thing he does wrong! Really! He doesn't touch a Christmas decoration or ornament, has never bothered a remote, may rearrange my shoes to stick his wet nose into one for a more comfy nap but never chewed. I just can't imagine crating this 3 1/2 year old, very creative guy just because he's showing that he's smarter than me...so far! I can outwit this dog, I can outwit this dog, I can outwit this dog.......rulesicon

can you put dining room chairs or tv trays up around it? That's what we did with Koda and within about a month he started staying off the furniture. It's a pain having to set it up and break it down, but I think it was well worth it.

Update. We went out last night for a few hours. I put the plastic on the couch. But I placed a baby gate on top of that. I think the problem may be solved. Guess I should have done this earlier. He never, ever touches baby gates at all. They don't have to be attached to walls, just leaned somewhere and he simply turns around and walks away. Silly boy. He gave us his normal happy hello when we returned, but then he does that weather he's been relaxing on one of his several beds or the couch anyway. This time he clearly stayed on his own bed. Good boy Indy! Love my baby. :D

I should have thought of those ideas months ago. I tried the usual technique, such as leave it or off with Scrappy. It worked with my other dogs. Scrappy then did as I "commanded" as long as I was home and could see him. Then he figured out, somehow, since he has a brindle coat, and our couches are paisely, the SAME colors and shades as his coat, we could not see him-at least right away, the little stinker!!! I finally gave up. He has one up on me in the sneaky department!

Glad that the baby gate worked. We have the same issue with Indy. He gets one chair (actually a chair and a half recliner). We put the kitchen chairs on the sofa and love seat when we are not home and he doesn't go close to either.
