This is sort of wierd but I was hoping someone may have some suggestions.
Our boys have been chewing through each others collars!

When Titus was a puppy, Tucker was his chew toy...to this day they like to lay next to each other and either mouth wrestle or chew on each other (some wierd sign of affection??). Well a few months ago they discovered each others collars. What happens is, Titus will chew through Tucker's (or vice versa) and then they just play tug of war or chase each other around the backyard. They have tons of toys they play with put they love their collars! After going through a few sets of collars they have been wearing metal choke collar around the house and when they play in the backyard(they can't chew through these!!). They don't seem to mind having a collar on...it is the other one who starts the search and destroy mission once a collar is on.

Well, we are wanting to attempt another try at the collars and I was hoping someone would know of some super industrial strength collars? Does anyones dogs do this? Everyone I talk to just looks at me like I have gone mad when I tell them about it!!

Been there! From the time we brought Adam home, they began chewing on their collars. drove me nuts cuz the collar always looked liked "hand me downs" and my babies cant wear ratty clothes! :) Once Adam turned one, they stopped doing it so much - so I bought them nice leather collars. They very rarely chew the collars any more. Hopefully, its just an age thing??

Mine went thru that stage as well. They'll grow out of it. Its fun for them. Maggie used to lead Susie around by the collar and rough her up and toss her around, then Susie would do the same. I would always try and separate them and redirect them to other forms of play when they did this. It worked after a while. And as they got older, they too lost interest in that game.

My boys are 3 & 4....and Kuma has ALWAYS chewed Herkie's collar completely off of him....but never when I am around!Since they share a crate(their choice) Herkie can't wear a collar in the crate...because it's inevitable that Kuma will chew it off foolicon !So Herkie wears his collar when I am home...but he get's upset when I take it off...starts jumping around and trying to take it back! But when they are crated...no collar for Herkie!

All of mine went through this phase and many, many, collars. Thank God they eventually out grew it. ~ Cathy

Thanks so much for your posts...guess it isn't that wierd after all!!

Hopefully our boys will grow out of it also...it is sometimes funny to see them running around like they have the golden goose in their mouth when it is really just a ratty, chewed up collar.

Thanks!!

My mixed breed w (who wrestles well enough to stand up to any boxer) always manages to get Ginger's collar off her but he doesn't chew it up.
