Obstruction?

Oscar's mama

This morning at 3:00am I heard Oscar fussing around. He got off his bed and threw up an unidentified object. It felt like some type of rubber or sponge. Not sure where he could have eaten it because I was home with him all day yesterday. Anyway, when I took him out first thing in the morning to potty he pooped as usual but then kept straining himself to do more with no relief. After he had breakfast I took him out again. He started straining again all over the yard -- scooching and squatting with nothing happening except for a little liquid drops coming out. He did this for about another 5 minutes with no relief. I am wondering if he has some type of obstruction or if something is wrong with his anal glands? I suppose if this happens again today and tomorrow I should take him to the vet? Any advice on this matter? I am worried about him. Hopefully it is nothing serious...

I would take him in. He could have something blocked in there. Better to be safe than sorry. Good luck and I'll be praying!

I would also be scheduling a vet visit. The fact that he's thrown up a foreign object but still appears to be having some difficulty really does give you cause to believe that it's not all out of his system. It's very much better to waste your time with an unnecessary vet visit at this stage than to possibly lose the dog because of an obstruction.

Good :) Hopefully it's just residual effects of having had the sponge (or whtever it was) in his tummy making him ill, but it really is better to be safe than sorry in this sort of situation.
Let us know how it goes. Good luck!

Obstruction Update

Last night when I got home Oscar pooped with no problem and was as playful as ever. Seems he had a leaf stuck in there when I inspected. I called the vet anyway -- she said since he went with no problem and he wasn't straining anymore that it wasn't necessary to bring him in at this time. But she told me that if he strains again I should bring him in. He was totally fine again this morning as well. I am so glad. Thanks for the good wishes.

Good to hear he seems to be doing better :) Hopefully the leaf was the sole cause of his problem!

Glad to hear Oscar is doing better. We have to watch our babies like a hawk. It is just like having a 2 yr old child around.
