my 7 month old male boxer is constantly licking my fiance. What does this mean, if anything, when a dog does this to his human dad?

oh... that's interesting. most of the time dagney licks my fiance is after they are done playing together. so should i be worried about any submissive or dominant behavior?

The big licker

I have a boxer mix who licks excessively on any body or thing. I once saw a training program on Animal Planet that addressed the problem. The vet that saw the dog said it could be an obsessive compulsive thing or it could mean that the dog is continually saying "I'm sorry." The vet's suggestion was to try and not reprimand the dog for licking. Instead everytime the dog starts to lick stop paying any attention or petting the dog. This has somewhat helped Hailey (my licker). I am more strict with that than my husband. She really likes to lick him especially when he gets home from work. Hope this helps.

Good advice above. Your puppy is too young to be displaying dominance issues. It is more than likely a sign of submission. Does your husband speak harshly or loudly to the dog? Lighten the tone if he does.

My Rider is a licker. I try to pet him and he licks my hands (yuk!). I simply stop petting him as soon as he licks and ignore him for a while. Seems to be working as now he will let me pet him most of the time without licking me and also lets me cuddle him without the constant licking.

Every Boxer is different. Some are more kissey and others are aloof. My girls love to kiss and Booker T will only give you two quick swipes with his tongue.

I would not be worried. I am sure it is either a sign of affection or submissiveness. Heck, it is probably both :)

I would not worry about it either. Every boxer I have ever known has been a licker. My boxers especially love company, and at that young children, and will lick them to death. A funny thing that Tulsa-Dan said, that boxers will lick somebody who is hollering at them. My dogs will not lick my fiancee at all, they will show some affection, but tend to lick me all of the time. I think your boxer really likes your fiancee, and is probably ecstatic that he is playing with him. And, like my boxers, he has that uncontrollable lick. I know licking can be gross at some times, but boxers love to show affection that way, and I have just gotten used to it!!!!!!

Yep that's my Wilson, only does it when he feels like it. I actually wish he licked more! I'll go up to him and say Wilson, kisses...kisses... and sometimes he'll give me a couple licks and other times he just won't budge lol. Then I'll do a fake sob (I'm so sad lol, I know) and sometimes he'll feel sorry for me and come give me one or 2 licks only. There are times when out of nowhere he'll come and start licking my arm, hand or even face for a short while, but that doesn't happen too often!
Oh well I still love him, and it's probably a good thing hehe. He does love to cuddle and be petted/rubbed (but not groomed/brushed mind you) so it's all good.

Anyway all other Boxers I have met have been big lickers, so your baby is very normal and just showing his love! He's saying "Mommy this guy's a keeper!" :p

I agree with those who find boxer licking sweet and affectionate. When we ask our girl for kisses she showers you with nose nudges & sloppy licks! She likes to lick my partner when theyre watching tv & the facial expression tells me she just loves him to bits..not that shes scared, obsessive, submissive or anything like that..she just adores him. Also when hes sore or has some cuts and bumps from work she focuses on these like she is trying to make her dad better. I think its cute and have never had an animal so affectionate-it makes me so happy!
Have fun and enjoy all the love they have to offer!

that's really interesting ... my fiance has psoriasis on his feet and he is always scratching them. we have to pull dagney away because he won't stop licking his feet... maybe he is trying to make them all better!
