Hi! I hope I'm posting in the right forum. Nikita is currently in a daycare / training facility 2x per wk, 8 hrs per day for socialisation for dog to dog aggression issues (she's doing much better and she loves the ladies at the daycare!). We felt the socialisation was a major issue, that's why we started off this way. Anyhow, she is now 5 mths and we are considering obedience classes because we've heard that boxers need obedience classes. We are both home full time and are training her at home and it is going extremely well. She's highly intelligent and teaching her new stuff seems to be a breeze. My DH seems to think we can do it on our own, what advice would you give? If we should be working with a professional could someone please advise us on questions to ask / things to look out for?

I highly recommend obedience training. It's a great way to bond with your boxer in a setting different from home. Unless you are a trained professional yourself there is just nothing like working with your dog under someone elses guidance. It's also another step in the socialization process. Even though Bella has earned her CGC we go to monthly maintenance classes and she is excited to go and see all her friends from previous classes!

i agree thats why the guys hows helping me is a thai/german trainor insted of training the dog obedience he's training me how to train my boxer for competion, hopefully we can in the near future. the guys from GSD is the one training me im the only boxer dog in the club of german shepherd dog club they are teaching me obedience, shutzhund tracking and protection plus how to be a helper.

the german guys have a diffrent way of training.

Thankyou for your responses. I am now hearing from alot of people that boxers especially benefit from outside of the home obedience training. So, off to school we go....

i really prefer being in a class setting. i think it's good for us to learn from someone who is a professional trainer. there's nothing like it.
i tried to train our first boxer on my own...........sure we was a great dog but he didn't know half of the things we all know now.
plus.....the class time is totally therapeutic for me. i'm out of the house.....bonding with and focusing on my dog. there's nothing like a class...but that's' just my opinion.

the german trainor is always with me to train me because we are planning to do the BH test our target is do it in 5 to 6 months, hope full we can pass by that time we train in a open area every week end and week days i go to a place where there's not much people to keep on training. it help me to keep on focus and also aimee is always in focus. it really refreshing every time we do our training exercise.

Hi! AimeeDBoxer! just to let you know I'm very excited as I'm starting in a few wks obedience training with a shutzhund trainer (level 1 and 2 only). He is the president of the Shutzhund Club in Ontario, Canada. We will also be doing agility with him when Nikita's a bit older. I was so excited to see his facility, it's a 100 acre farm with obstacle courses, training facilities etc. How old was Aimee when you started your training? Just curious, where are Aimees bloodlines from? Nikita is European standard.
Good Luck to you and Aimee in your training!

it's really exciting, im excited all the time. Aimee is from an american blood line but Bambam is german line. Aimee started training from 3 months puppy training, then clicker training, then obedience and tracking. good for you theres a real place where you can find a facility. in bangkok me and the German Sheperd Dog club (GSD), we try to look for a place where we can train like football field, or a crop field or any open area and we bring our own equipment. let us know how it the training.

Good luck and have fun with your babies
