I don't know if this is in the right area or not, but it has been bugging me. Has anyone here who has used nylon collars on their dogs noticed they get a horrible odor from them. I recently switched my two Boxers to leather collars, and have noticed the smell has gone away. is there something in the collar that doesn't mix with my dogs, or do they just build up odors easier.

Maggie's gets that way too. I wash it. Her leather collar stinks as well with all the other dog's chewing on it and slobbering on it all the time in the park. But not as badly as the nylon collar we slip on for quick "business" walks.

Throw it in the washing machine. Nylon collects odors.

Hmmmm - couldn't really say, because I don't have collars on my dogs unless they're on leash, but I'd guess that they nylon is more porous, so more "stuff" can get in there....

Just a wild thought!

Collars can get pretty stinky if you don't wash them. Like Dan, I throw them in the washing machine. I'm not sure if nylon is any worse than leather or cotton ones.

hello. yes spanky's nylon collar smells pretty bad after a while too. i think nylon must collect odor or something. i am not sure of a solution except to throw it in the wash. that always works for me. good luck.
