nylabone

Are these long-lasting toys? I noticed someone said they were getting some for their pup for Christmas, but I was just wondering if they are good toys. Do they splinter and crumble? I've gotten Zero some that crumble, and they just turn into the biggest mess... not worth it!!!
Any input?

It depends on if your buying the edible nylabones or the other non-edible ones. Cortes occassionaly likes the edible ones, but they do tend to crumble and make a bit of a mess. The nonedible ones don't crumble at all though your dog may be able to chew or scrape small bits off, depends on how hard of a chewer he is. Cortes pretty much ignores his non-edible nylabone.

Thanks, I didn't know there were different ones... guess I'll have to try the non-edible one and see if he likes it!!!

i always get luna the aggressive chewer bones. they are a little more expensive...but i think its worth it for luna not to break off peices and choke on them. she also has a galilao nyla bone that is really thick and tough. our trainer said to always get the biggest and hardest ones you can for the safety of your dog. also when the knuckles on the ends wear down...its time for a new bone!!!!

that's good to know!!! When Zero gets down to the middle of his rawhide, I throw that away too... don't want to have to remove it from his throat while he is choking!!!!

Rogue used to have the edible ones but big bits kept coming off & sticking in her throat (dangerous), she coughed for a few days & then threw it all up, so now she just has the one non-edible bone now, which seems to be doing okay.

ok, that pretty much made up my mind... no nylabone for Zero!!!!
thank you for referring me to that post. hope other people read this, and at least take more precaution when giving their pups something to chew on. don't want another story like that!

Sam is a vicious chewer. We bought him a nylabone 2 years ago, and it is still there. He has torn a few peices off, but after a LOT of trying.

So where do you get the butcher bones? Just from a butcher shop? Or is this something that can be bought at a pet store? My dogs tear just about every rawhide, bone, nylabone apart. Other than squeeky toys which they all love and never destroy, not sure what other bones I could get them.
